:topsy: me neither.

Hey, all the proddy friends (minus Budge, who is prolly banned again) are comin' out on this thread! Good to have you all here! The title was funny, but I prefer separated brethren, though I used to joke with my good friend who was protestant, thinking about becoming Catholic... (I would say "heretic!" and he would say "separated brethren!"... and so forth).
I wasn't offended. And I chuckled when Justin86 made his comment. I thought it was funny. I also feel respected. Everybody happy now? :-)
Maybe I'm just touchy. Sorry.

I repeat:

is protestantism a heresy?
do protestants believe the protestant heresy?

Heretic does not mean Hellish demon. It means misguided Christian. Protestants (not to mention most Catholics) are heretics. FULL STOP.

Can you find any writings or quotes from either Pope Ben or PJPII where non-Catholics or non-Christians are formally adressed as pagans or heretics? As I said before, language conotations change, and those terms have not been used by the popes of our Church for quite some time, therefore, to use those terms to adress non-Catholic/or non-Christians is not to speak with the mind of the Church, imo.

Is this thread meant to be a simple inquiry or an attempt to suss out theological differences between myriad Prot denominations? If the former, I've already mentioned my current presence on PM. If the latter, it might serve more of a purpose on the Debate Board.

I think this should def. be moved. I'm not sure whether the title was intentionally provocative, but regardless, it's no long about simply asking if any Phatmassers are Protestant.

With all due respect to the current and preceding Holy Fathers, they are no more Pope than those that came before (aor than those that will come after) I can provide hundreds of instances of Popes and Bishops referring to Protestants kindly, and charitably as what they are HERETICS.

But the Holy Father leads the Church today. The culture and context of the time period is a factor in what terms should or should not be used. The Holy Spirit knows how to best to pursue inter-faith relations, and we can trust that he leading the current pope in this regard. An approach that was used 500 years ago may not be the best approach today .For example, a religous war may have been appropriate in the middle ages, but it would certainly not be appropriate today, baring dire circumstances. If the current Holy Father is not using the term heretic to address Protestants, neither should we.

Well then let's go with the phorum guidelines shall we?
Personal Attacks
A post or comment that has nothing to do with the topic, but is specifically meant to upset or criticize another person or group of people. This includes, but is not limited to, calling people "heretics" (used in a derogatory manner), "democrooks", etc.
I think the title of this thread goes against the guidelines pretty clearly. Honestly I'm not sure why it hasn't been deleted yet

Does my question not warrant an answer? I don't argue theology-I admit I'm not qualified. I just wondered if this was to be a roll call or serve some other purpose.

I resent your characterization of my post. It is not an attack to say that a person who believes heresy is a heretic.
