kateri05
i'm sure my foot is going to go in my mouth here, since this is probably your family or something, but yes. the two littlest girls are darling. i personally don't care for the poofy short sleeves and so the third youngest's blouse is a bit much for me. obviously, thats just personal taste. the oldest daughter is dressed like she's an old woman and while i like the fabrics and the pretty lace collars, the mom and oldest daughter's dresses just aren't flattering. there isn't enough shape to the clothes to make them attractive. you can look pretty, feminine and attractive and still be modest. and i think thats the point of red's modesty day with her teens. i do love matching family pictures tho

kateri05
no, i do too, but i look at it like, i'm making objective fashion commentary and not passing judgement on them as people. and they certainly look very nice and i do like those prints.... well, for the little ones anyways
Farsight one
that is ridiculous. you are thinking of the perverted version worn by brittany spears. plaid skirts to your knees, sweaters and collared shirts are not inherently sexual. its only if you wear the skirt to barely cover your bum and unbutton the shirt to your belly button that it becomes "dirty." Case in Point. Check out the uniforms at my school!
Not really. I distinctly remember the men's retreat that my high school sent me on my senior year. We discussed this, and it was the wide-spread general consensus that the girl's uniforms were a bit too enticing. The only difference between the uniforms at my school and the one's at yours seem to be the color of the skirt, and that the sweater was optional. (might be optional at your school too, but it doesn't look it from the photos) p.s. - that's just shy of about 150 guys
Farsight one
(I find myself inexplicably unable to edit my previous post, so consider this an edit...) The rules for women's wear at my high school were skirt 3 inches past the knees, shirt tucked in, and only the top button could be undone edit - oh, suuuuure. I can edit this one though... kateri05
3 inches above the knee??? thats pretty high. our rule is knee or below. and its actually enforced. these kids come from homes where their parents wouldn't let them walk out of the house in skirts that short, let alone go to school. i doubt our schools were the same. i have NEVER seen students dressed like my students. they scream modesty. literally

(after the jumpers they wear everywhere) For some reason, I do rather like the sound of "great skirts of thunder." "Great Skirts of Thunder!" "Holy Balls of Redemption!" beatty07
ditto Innocent on "respect deserved as daughter of God" vs. "respect that is spontaneously felt prior to an act of will." Except about a Saint not being troubled by temptation...maybe I misunderstood. The school uniform thing is scary. I think it's just socialization... it started as just one more lame taboo-busting titillation by Britney's forebears. You know, forbidden=enticing. Eventually, men have seen it portrayed sexually so often that for some, the association is just there, regardless of skirt length and buttons. That's my theory anyway.
Plus two questions: If you could say one thing to your sisters in Christ about modesty, what would it be? As a guy, what is your responsibility in this area? What is your role in guarding your eyes and mind?
Thanks! It is AWESOME that you care about our holiness and your dignity! No wonder Catholic women have the ability to make Catholic men forget... um, you know...like, how to, um, talk good. I don't think men in general should even worry about what the women are wearing and whether it's modest. Unless the woman's your daughter. I just mean it seems like it should be something the girls handle, with any input they wish to ask from us. Like this thread. But I'm talking about going down the street thinking "modest, modest, immodest, really immodest, oh my gosh, Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee..." Maybe it's better if we just worry about the purity of our minds. I know if I start thinking "that skirt is really high" I've already lost. That sounds like a very plausible explanation, from a girl's point of view.
