missionarybelle
ok. so i have 1 month to donate blood. and I'm so pumped! one of the very few disadvantages of going in and out of the country for mission work or pleasure is that the United Blood Services no longer want your blood. so I can't save a life. but I am so excited because in November it will have finally been a year since my trip to Ireland and I'll have a month to donate blood until I (Godwilling) go on mission in December. [/quote] The US doesn't want my blood - ever. I was going to university in England for a semester during the whole mad cow thing, so the US wouldn't take my blood when I got back, even after a year. I guess I could technically give blood now that I'm in the UK, I don't know. But I can't really physically do it; after half a pint I get to the point of passing out. Wish I could give, though. photosynthesis
I passed out and got really sick the last (and only) time I gave blood so I'm scared to do it again.

I literally waited my whole life to be able to give blood, and then go to give it and they don't want it!
Noel's angel
I can't believe they won't take your blood because you went to Europe....that's insane. I've tried to give blood, but they don't let me. Apparently I don't weigh enough.

missionarybelle
it's only the british isles. I don't think it's the same if you go to other european countries. it depends on where you go, how long you stay, etc. for some places you have to wait 10 years! missionarybelle
well, it's automatic that you have waiting periods to give blood after you go to the isles. however, you still have problems with other areas of europe depending on the time you go etc. i think

jenna311
After going to Peru, I have to wait a year. They used to call me all the time to go and give blood. I almost passed out the first time, but the second time I was fine. I just end up being incredibly hungry when I do, and eat a lot during the day. When July comes around, I can give blood again.
