Birgitta Noel
I went to confession once while driving a priest to the airport. At one point we had to stop for a second because the traffic was so heavy and I couldn't focus on driving and confession. But we got it all in in the end! Theologian in Training
Every Advent and Lent we hear confessions for an hour during the day 12-1 on top of the 4-4:45 on Saturday. I have had people call up and have told the secretary that if anyone needs to go to confession I am here. there have been countless reversions to the faith that way....I refuse to say I had a hand in it, I was just His instrument. And, the best story I ever heard from my bishop was this: He was at a huge Mass for the Polish people, I believe, and someone not used to protocol, during the preparation of the gifts came out and asked for the bishop to hear his confession since he wanted to receive. The bishop, understandably, said: "Now?!" I asked what the bishop did, he said, he heard his confession. The people probably thought it was normal or something, and thought nothing of it. So, any priest anywhere should and can hear confession, it is my favorite sacrament and I constantly encourage people to come back...so come back people, it is never too late! Usually they start confession 1/2 hour before Mass and a priest will stay in the confessional until everyone has had a chance to go, even if the other priest has started saying Mass. It really helps because then the priest doesn't have to leave 10 minutes early to go get ready.
Deo Iuvente
At my parish, confessions are heard before the 4:00 PM Saturday vigil mass (And by 'before', I mean starting at 1:30) and before and after all the other masses. They try to keep confession as available as possible,So we often do have lines for confession. One place I know of that always has long lines is St. John the evangelist in center city,Philadelphia.I believe they have confessions 3 pm every day, and they have wonderful confessors (The second best in the city)

I expected him to, at least, tell him to wait until after, nope, right there, in front of everyone....he really wanted absolution
kateri05
the devotion behind the request i think is what makes it such a great story. obviously, ignorance prompted asking at that not so appropriate moment, but at the same time, the guy really GOT that God's grace and forgiveness are where its at in confession AND the bishop got that he got it, and met him where he was. so yay
