just remember this part as well Song of Songs 8:6-7

6 Put me as a seal upon thy heart, as a seal upon thy arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy as hard as hell, the lamps thereof are fire and flames.

7 Many waters cannot quench charity, neither can the floods drown it: if a man should give all the substance of his house for love, he shall despise it as nothing.

I found the one whom my soul loves.

-- Song of Solomon 3:4

This is my beloved and this is my friend.

-- Song of Solomon 5:16

I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me.

-- Song of Solomon 7:10

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it.

-- Song of Solomon 8:7

In all my casual flicking through the Good Book, I'd never noticed this part! (I haven't been much of a religious scholar as you may have gathered)

I've had a short look and it is really beautiful, thanks Lil Red! I'm going to read it in more detail now. I'll not be short of a verse for my beloved's Valentine card this year!

Actually, if I descibed my wife as:

"...a mare of the Pharaoh's chariots." (chapter 1 verse 9)

or said:

"Your belly is a heap of wheat." (chapter 7 verse 2)

I might get a slap!

I'm sure that back when these phrases were written, they were delghtful things to say!

definitely check out the footnotes on those verses.

for verse 9: The bridegroom compares the girl's beauty to the rich adornment of the royal chariot of Pharaoh.

for verse 2, I actually have: "How beautiful are your feet in sandals, O prince's daughter! Your rounded thighs are like jewels, the handiwork of an artist. (verse 3) Your navel is a round bowl that should never lack for mixed wine. Your body is a heap of wheat encircled with lilies.

and for those verses, this is what my footnotes say: "A flattering description of the girl's charms. Rounded...jewels: the meaning of these Hebrew words is not certain. Wine and wheat are symbolic of fertility; they are here associated with parts of the body which have a close relation to fruitfulness.
