socalscout
BE HONEST!! Has this ever happened to you and if not then what would you do if you were guilty of this? Open your door and hit the car next to you. You put a small tiny scratch in the car that is barely noticable but if you can see it so can the owner of the car. What do you do? What did you do and what happened? Edited February 9, 2004 by socalscout
BLAZEr
forget about it . . . umm, it's a parking lot, things like that happen. If you don't want your car to get a little scratch, don't park in a parking lot. Now, if I caused major damage, then I would leave a note with some contact info. Richard
I have to be honest, I would leave it (and have done so). I'm not proud of myself for it. I'd leave my phone number under one of their wiper blades if the damage was more serious, though.
Aloysius
Blazer's right. since when are we under an obligation to let them know? unless we maliciously slamed our door against theirs...
socalscout
Blazer's right. since when are we under an obligation to let them know? unless we maliciously slamed our door against theirs... The extent of the damage is relative though, right? What I consider a scratch he/she might consider serious damage. Damage, no matter how small, has been done to the car. How much damage would warrant leaving a note?
Richard
If you did it and the owner of the car saw it, you'd apologise and probably both examine the damage (and hopefully agree that no further action was necessary). Just because they don't see you, doesn't make the damage less. I think we owe a duty of care to other people's things, hence I'm not proud of the fact that I've damaged other cars and driven off. socalscout
I did not post here to judge. I am guilty of it as people are guilty of doing it to me. No need to have apologies here my friends. Don't examine your conscience and feel bad for this thread. Just a little moral delemma.
Richard
I don't feel that anyone's judging, just engaging in honest adult debate. The world would be a boring place if we all agreed all of the time! :D
cmotherofpirl
#1 one son who treats his care like a baby would keel over if somebody scratched his baby. #2 son would never even notice. Eerybody is different.
Sojourner
Someone hit my car in my parking garage on the passenger side door. It was a tiny dent, but enough of one so you couldn't open the car door. It will cost $750 to fix, but I have to pay for it since the blankety-blank who hit my car didn't leave any sort of contact information, and I don't have the extra $500 lying around to meet my deductible. So now I can't use my car door. This probably wasn't someone hitting my car with their door, but still, it looked small and they probably thought it was no big deal. So I guess I'd say leave the number, and leave it up to the owner of the car to call you if there's a problem.
cimlog
I would feel obligated to leave a note with my contact info and what happened. I would play it safe. I would feel like a load of guilt would be on my shoulders if I didn't. Then if they don't think anything of it then they won't call. It is there problem they didn't call. You did your part... right!
