cimlog
I was involved in a discussion tonight dealing with being saved. I was told that we don't have to worry because we are all saved. Is that true. I agree we are blessed with a life that Jesus gave us. The dictionary defines saved as, make safe from harm, danger, loss, etc. Now here is where I am confused. Jesus died and saved us from harm, and danger. But I always assumed that you will only be saved if you go to heaven after you pass away. You are saved from the harm and danger of hell. Our lives were saved by Jesus but are we all saved from the danger in and after our lives. In which case are you truly saved?

Aloysius
ok. i was there. did you here me when he asked 'are we, as Catholics, saved?' i answered: "DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU MEAN BY SAVED" we are redeemed, or saved from our past sin. we work out our ETERNAL salvation in fear and trembling, we could fall. if we mortally sin rejecting GOd's grace and are unrepentent before we die, we go to hell, regardless of how much we accepted the grace at one point in our life, if we reject it and then die with a soul in the state of rejecting God's grace, we go to hell. anyway, in the sense of 'redeemed' we are saved. in the sense of 'we are assured heaven' no one is saved until we die. We are saved now (as long as we're repentent calling upon the name of the Lord, from previous sin) and we hope that we will be saved when we die (if we persevere to the end and either make it to purgatory or heaven, we're assured of our eternity in heaven)

cmotherofpirl
Adam and Eves' sin left us with original sin and closed the gates of heaven. Jesus's death opened the gates of heaven and baptism removes the stain of original sin. So if you are baptised, then die without committing any mortal sins you go straight to heaven. However if you do commit a mortal sin, you have lost your grace. If you die without confession you are in big trouble. :pitchfork: Some protestants believe that once you ask Jesus into your heart you are saved forever, no matter what you do. Cathoolics beleive that only by staying in grace until we die can we be saved. :funeral: WE know that this occurs until the day we die. :seesaw: So Catholics say we are saved (by baptism), are getting saved ( by confession, Communion, working for the Kingdom), and hope to be saved ( by perserving to the end of our lives in a state of grace). :saint:
cimlog
Thanks a lot guys So Catholics say we are saved (by baptism), are getting saved ( by confession, Communion, working for the Kingdom), and hope to be saved ( by perserving to the end of our lives in a state of grace). Makes a lot of sense now.
