saint_wannabe
but by supporting harry potter arent you in a way supporting evilÉ ...since the book are mostly about witchcraft and wizardry. the world out there is getting pretty evi why are you guys taking this so lightly
Farsight one
The way I see it, if you want to reject Harry Potter as evil because it has witchcraft and wizardry(magic) in it, then you also MUST reject Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia. They are filled with magic as well. And before you go talking about how lotr and CoN have a Christian basis, so does Harry Potter - by admission of J.K Rowling herself. sarcasmguy126
yeah...what the heck are they feeding kids these days? Deuteronomy strictly forbids witchcraft, sorcery, other forms of magic, soothsayers, mediums, and contact with the dead and spirit worlds...so how can Harry Potter be "good"? All witches are bad! I'm concerned primarily for the little tikes who will read/watch Harry Potter and think "how does this work?" This is terrible stuff...even the casting spells, also condemned by God. Visiting a medium damned Saul in the Bible. And I suppose J.K. is a CHRISTIAN witch....how does somebody write all that stuff without occultish research, and becoming ensnared by it? More disturbing yet is that Eragon and other fantasies seem to be following in the HP footsteps. Read Narnia or something decent in which sorcery and witchcraft are portrayed as evil, or LOTR, because both these series treat magic differently and are not occult. God help us... knightec
If reading Harry Potter makes you turn to witchcraft then you are way to easily influenced. It was written as a form of entertainment. It is not a "How to" book or some kind of magic manual. Its just a book that is meant to be read and enjoyed.

Watch the movies and read the books - the good guys do the same thing. As for LotR - how is magic treated differently?

SarahB
I didn't read the Harry Potter books for a long time because I was convinced they were evil(Hey, I went to an Assembly of God church, you do the math, lol). Then, one day I finally decided to sit down and read them because I've never been one to just reject something before looking into it. I read the first 4 books in 3 days. Yes, there is magic in them, but it's fiction. Just as Lord of the Rings and Narnia. And Cinderella, and Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty and many other movies and stories most of us have grown up with. I think that for younger children, the parents should sit down with them and explain to them about how the books are fiction and answer any questions the children may have. But if you're going to get rid of Harry Potter based on the magic contained in it, then you have to get rid of a lot of what we grew up with. SarahB
Hehe, sorry. I'm a really fast reader. It stinks sometimes, because you wait so long for a book to come out and then you read it in 3 or 4 hours.
