I dont know if there has already been a thread on this... Can somebody tell me more about the Passionist sisters? Has anybody from PM discerned with them or entered?

They are a beautiful Order. I do not believe anyone on PM has entered a Passionist community but I could be wrong about that.

I am visiting the Passionists in Whitesville, KY next month.

If you email the vocation directress there, Sr. John Mary of the Indwelling Trinity, C.P., she will send you a vocations DVD which is really beautiful and professionally done.

They are "constitutionally" enclosed, meaning that they are cloistered, but not as strictly as "papal" enclosed nuns. I think it's a really neat form of enclosure.

You can PM me if you'd like sister's contact information, or it might be on the website: http://passionistnuns.org/

Honestly I'm not trying to push this particular community of Passionists, but they are the only one I know about and I really love them so that is why they are the only one I have information on. Someone else around here might have information on other Passionist communities in the U.S. :)

God bless!

Lauren

A friend of mine actually showed me the DVD which sparked my interest. She received it in the mail and we watched it a few months ago.

We have Passionist Nuns in St. Louis also. Unfortunately, they do not have a website. The archdiocese maintains a page for them HERE.
Occasionally they will run a vocations commercial on our local Catholic radio station. I don't know how large they are as a community, but they do have some younger sisters among them.

A group of us visited them during our "cloistered nun run" last spring... I think there are pictures from our blog...

I'm a lay Passionist affiliated with the Erlanger, KY, monastery.

If you want further info, they're listed on my main website.

Blessings,
Gemma

Aren't they the ones that were really devoted to St. Maria Goretti? I wanna say there was a Monastery where she lived.

I'm confused about what you are saying. Do you mean, was St. Maria Goretti devoted to the Passionists?

She's listed in all of our Passionist Saints books. Her body is buried in the Passionist church near where she lived.

HTH.

I visited the Passionists Nuns in St. Louis for a day, while I happened to be down there, and really liked them! Mother Mary Veronica and the Novice Mistress, Sister Mary Salvador were extremely welcoming and kind, very easy to talk with.

From speaking with them and reading their literature, I felt that the community was pretty austere in their observance of the life, but very very joyful at the same time, which usually goes together. ^_^ They rise every night at something like 2:00 am for a half an hour of meditation and the Office of Readings, and then go back to sleep again until 5:30 am or so.

Just a small note, but the Passionist Nuns actually never had wimples as part of their habit/veil - so they are definitely in full Passionist habits and everything - not that that's a very big deal, but just to let you know. That's a great picture of them shortnun, from your blog! Yes, there are a few young ones. I believe the youngest one there is Sr. Mary Elizabeth.

Another picture I found of them online

Sr. Mary Elizabeth, Mother Mary Veronica (I think) & Sr. Marie Michelle

Every Sunday they have the TLM / Extraordinary Form of the Mass offered by the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem. Their public chapel and monastery is pretty small, built around the 1950's I believe, but nice - fits well with their charism.

Here's a little something on St. Maria Goretti & the Passionists. Yep, she's numbered among their saints.

And here's a beautiful story about Sr. Marie Michelle's correspondance with an African priest.

I would strongly recommend them!

One thing that really struck me when we visited them was their solidarity with the world--how they were united to the world in prayer. Their prayers of the faithful at Mass mentioned war, those suffering from violence, forced into prostitution, etc. It was the way that it was worded--very specifically--that made me aware of how aware their community was of the sufferings in the world around us. I found great comfort from their prayers.

Their chapel is indeed small, but lovely. I wonder who will come to preside at mass now, as I believe the CRNJ are moving to a different diocese.

That's great! I didn't make it to attend Mass there, but just met with the sisters.

That's a great example also of how a community can be totally in solidarity with the sufferings of the world, and aware of what's happening in it, without the use of secular media like TV and newspapers, which they do not have according to the article on Sr. Marie Michelle.
