Girls Day Out - A Spa Day Experience For Young Women

Recommended Posts

so, i'm planning a 'girls day out' event for high school age young women of my city. i'm hoping to do this event twice a year, before the two big dances (homecoming and prom). here's what i'm planning so far for the day:

-hair tips - updo's for evening looks, etc.
-make up tips - how to apply make-up without over applying; how to apply a day look vs. evening look; skin care tips
-get their nails done
-mini fashion show - modest, inexpensive clothes that can be bought locally - different modest looks for interviews, job wear, casual looks, etc.
-Theology of the Body talk
-lunch

all the girls would also get a gift bag with coupons for local stores, hair stuff, nail stuff, make-up, etc., in it.

do you ladies have any suggestions on what else i could do, or what i could improve upon? oh, and suggestions on what to call the day? i don't know if i like "Girls Day Out".

Great idea!!

Are you teaming up with a salon or something?

I have to think more about this and get back to you if I have any additional ideas.

How many people are working on it?
Where is the fashion show?
Are you getting the clothes lent by merchants?
Are you charging admission? How much?
How many youth would you expect?

we will be doing advertising, etc. to draw the young ladies in. i just want to do a day about being a young LADY (not a teenage girl wearing skanky clothes and make-up), respecting your body, respecting others, etc.

Regnum Christi does something like that every year here. It is successful when they do.

I have wanted to do something similar but on a smaller scale, but I am not sure where to start.

i just decided to do it without thinking about if i could pull it off (and therefore talk myself out of it :))

it helps that a parishioner is editor of a local women's magazine, so i asked her for contacts. then i asked my aestitican if she could help (she does make-up, skin care, etc.). i'm hoping to ask the salon she works at if they could help out.

you could call it a "day of beauty," since hopefully at the ToB talk the girls will learn that there's more to beauty than just having the right hair and the right body. Hopefully they'll learn that modesty and purity are signs of true beauty.

I'm not a woman (big revelation, right?), but I'd add a door prize or two...beauty products or something. Jen has this really nice hair straightener she loves...professional grade...little expensive, but it would probably make a great grand prize.

Oh, and you could watch a chick flick together somewhere in there.

that's a good idea. we're giving away personalized gift bags to all the girls, but a really big door prize like what you mentioned would be a great idea too!

totally!

By the way, this is her hair straightener...she says it's by far the best one she's ever seen:

There's a pink one with a little pink rhinestone bling on it, too...it would be perfect.

That's what I was thinking. I got a strong impression when I was in a certain not-to-be-named Catholic girls club that our outward appearance was on the top of the priority list. Spiritually I didn't get anything out of it. It was a waste of time. So I'd really make the focus on dignity, and true inner beauty, recognizing how God sees us. It's impossible to know how much He loves us, but we will respect ourselves if we can begin to fathom the depth of His love for us, for the beauty inside of us, because we're made in His image. We don't need to look like cavemen - and there is nothing wrong with fashion or looking nice. But to have a whole day strictly focused on that would not have helped me as a teen.
