Craps...

Ok...how the heck do you play it? I've never really understood. I especially have a problem with the "pass line". It's just not making any sense to me.

Also - why is it called craps? From whence did the name "craps" come from?

when you start..

there is no "point"

traditionally, one puts their money on the Pass Line of the Don't Pass Line.

If a 7 or 11 is thrown, pass line wins, Don't pass line loses.

If if 2, 3, 12 is throw, pass line loses, DOn't pass line wins..

If anything ELSE other than 2,3,7,11,12 is thrown.. that is THE POINT.

Once a point is made, the goal is to HIT THE POINT , BEFORE throwing another 7.

As you are attempting to hit the point...

money on the 4 and 10 pay 9/5 (i think)
money on the 6 and 8 pay 7/6 (i think)
money on the 5 and 9 pay 7/5 (i think)

then on the right hand side you have the HARD WAYS (4,6,8,10) they pay as noted on the board and they stay up until that number hits hard or soft. so if you have $5 on hard 10, (5,5) and you throw a (6,4) you lose. The bet only really comes into play WHEN that number is thrown.

C/E is carp and eleven.. it is a good backup bet for the 'come out roll" (first rolls attempting to estanblish a point.)

there is ALOT more, like odds, horn, come line, field.... some are self explantory..

OH

if you have a point and you roll a 7, you lose all the $ on the board.

:)

...and the game seems to roll seven's abnormally often. Like 1/2 for me.

edit - thanks for explaining. So that means that you would make the most by placing coin on the don't pass line?

Craps is complicated if you worry about the whole board.

It's very simple if you only bet on the pass line.

If you roll a 7 or 11 on first roll, you win. If you roll 2, 3 or 12 you lose. If you roll anything else, just make sure to roll that number again before rolling a 7, and you win.

Statistically speaking, craps is your best chance of coming out ahead in Vegas, as the house advantage is only like 51%. This is assuming that you only bet on the pass line and always put max bet on the odds.
