How To Examinate Rightfully And Quickly The Conscience..

Hello, I have a question for those people who arrive at Mass about 10 minutes early or earlier even, and I'm wondering what is recommended time to examinate one's conscience prior to receiving Jesus in the Eucharist, I mean often one gets caught up in other things during the Mass, not bad things, but good, like Scriptual readings, the prayers, and "very real presence" of the Sacred Host. How dangerous is it to not have enough time to examinate yourself prior to receiving?

Also, what are some good ways to examinate yourself by? like a standard. I know the Ten Commandments are a standard which we sould pay close attention too, but is there anything else?

Thank You.
TWK.

Ive sometimes arrived at Mass 5 minutes early and often think thats not enough time to examinate the conscience, prior to Mass, when Mass starts I focus on Jesus, the Last Supper, His Death & Resurrection, Its not a bad thing, but how much time sould I focus on the self examinaton part?

I actually try to start when I'm getting ready for Mass. I'm a little more relaxed and generally can focus a little better. Its always really quiet around my house in the morning, as my roomies sleep in a lot lol

Thy Geekdom Come

To be quite honest, I'm out of practice on examining my conscience (with the exception of scruples). Thanks for the reminder.

Scruples make examining your conscience very difficult though, right hon?

I find myself busy examining my kids conscience more than my own. Thank you for the reminder!

If you are examining your conscience on a daily basis, five minutes should be plenty of time. You might have a lot of areas that need work, but God is usually only going to focus on one or two at a time since tackling everything at once is usually a recipe for failing at everything.

Besides, you need to save some time to chat with your friends before Mass, right?

Dont examine yourself.

The heart is a deceitful thing, says the Bible, can any of us do an honest assement of our own sins?

Pray and have the Holy Spirit examine you and lead you to righteousness.

Understand the difference?

Let God point out whats wrong....;)

That's what the examination of conscience is supposed to be... examining our souls with the light of the Holy Spirit, with the Holy Scriptures and the teaching of the Church as our guides :) If there's nothing horrible that pops out at you ("Hmm, so I killed somebody last Wednesday, better not receive the Eucharist") it sometimes helps to pray the Come, Holy Spirit prayer when you wake up on Sunday morning. Usually as I prepare to go to Mass I start to recall if I've gone wrong in a mortally sinful way.
