cappie
LOL... you're weird.
sorry I call it a sense of humor Many people say that "God doesn't care what we look like; He's just glad we're there." I'm sure there is a lot of truth to that statement, though I've never interviewed God on the subject. Still, I've often wondered why we go to great lengths to look our best on certain occasions and not others. Isn't our outward appearance a reflection of our inner attitudes? To me, it is not a question of God "caring" what we look like; God's love is a constant given. The real question is whether or not we care what we look like in God's presence. This is why Christians have always been encouraged to truly dress "up" when we gather for worship. It is an outward recognition that what we are gathering for is truly something very important and meaningful. ...with a little common sense we can dress casually and still reflect an attitude of reverence. For instance, short-shorts; grungy jeans, shirts, and athletic shoes; flimsy footwear; and tank-tops should never be worn to Church. Clean t-shirts are acceptable, providing they are not embellished with crude graphics. Let's not forget that proper dress also includes good grooming habits. At the very least, face and hands should be clean, teeth brushed, and hair brushed or combed.
Mercy me
If I am fortunate enough to catch a daily, I wear whatever I have on. (it is always modest) On Sunday I dress along the lines of business casual. Dress pants and a blouse, a wool blazer in the winter. I don't like skirts. Piccoli Fiori JMJ
I was never ever allowed to wear jeans to Mass. I was allowed like 3 Sundays to wear jeans, and I think two of those times was because I was supposed to wear a t-shirt for a youth thing and I usually ended up getting one of the larger sizes that fits like a sack and looks funny with anything nice. It has been a long long time though since that has happened. I tend to wear a skirt if I can, even when it is 2 below. Then I just wear two pairs of tights and an ankle length skirt. I need to get dress boots that come up to below the knee and would allow me to wear my skirts that fall a little past the knee. I usually will wear that with a nice blouse or sweater. My wardrobe at school is full of loose ends, so my outfits end up being a little limited and sometimes a little weird. I try not to wear pants, but during the week, it is easier to pull on a pair of khakis or courderoys for a daily Mass. I even 'dress up' a little for confession... franciscanheart
I tend to wear long skirts and long sleeve shirts. They aren't always fancy but it's more than sweats and a tshirt. Sometimes you'll catch me in jeans and a button down but most of the time it's skirts for me.
SJRod55
I wear regular work clothes - no jeans or shorts etc etc. i was quite horrified when in Mexico to see many tourists in cut off jeans and even on, very overweight Brit in a skimpy Speedo and that was it. I was brought up that we respected the Lord when we visited 'His House.' I believe it does us good to remember that.
mroger
All I'm sayin' is, "Don't let the crazy protestants one-up us!" You know what I'm saying. I don't like giving them any excuse to talk trash. just kidding But you must give your best, because God is judging you on that, says so in the passage I just showed you [above]! Of course, it doesn't necessarily say what "your best" is, that is between you and God, not me. Just don't show up in flip-flops or shorts thinking you're all cool and stuff...it ain't. Luthien
I like to wear an ankle length skirt, a sweater or knit shirt, with my chapel veil. Daily Mass I tend to dress a little more casual, but perhaps that is a fault on my part. I think I need to make more skirts.

SJRod55
I guess we are the conservative ones ... after all ... wearing just Speedo trunks is just plain uncool.
Proud2BCatholic139
I have seen someone for Sunday Mass, or even Confirmation blessing wear a provokative wrestling shirt and he had green hair.
mroger
yeah, i don't think speedos and flip flops are gonna get you in the door. talk about conservative. when i manages restaurants. there was once a group of gangsta ghetto girls who came in wearing not a thing more than raw bikinis and high heals. i could not believe my own eyes. i did not let them have a table, it's just inappropriate. they were probably all 16-19 y/o. sent them home to put some clothes on. it's amazing to see how MTV and hiphop have manipulated the overall generally acceptable code of behavior. after i saw that, i thought "it's all over - there is no hope for humanity". that is what i thought. man, i was livid that day. the crowd applauded me and i could barely move without someone shaking my hand, because it wasn't exaclty a fancy restaurant or anything. but i was very courteous to them at that moment, and did not disrespect them. looking back, i think maybe i should have publicly shunned them and hopefully their new formed sense of shame would have gracefully affected their will to leave. Maria
When I go to weekday Mass I just go with what I'm wearing for the day (except for the rare occasions when it's too dirty, or even more rare, if it's too casual). For Sunday Mass, I wear a blouse and a skirt. If it's cold, I wear a sweater as well. I also match the colour scheme to the liturgical season -- it helps the children I teach notice the seasons, and it helps me know what I'm wearing. So... I have 3 blouses (1 short sleeve), 2 green skirts, one of which has a matching vest and I've found a sweater for the other one, 1 purple skirt that goes either with my purple sweater or with my black sweater with pink embroidered flowers (guess when that's for), 1 redishy skirt, 2 beigishy off-white skirts, and 1 beigishy off-white dress that goes over a blouse, 1 beige sweater, and 1 off-white and gold sweater. For Christmas and Easter I have a very nice dress (that, incidentally, I made) that's sort of silvery beigishy. I never wear heals, partly because I just don't like them and partly because they're not very practical, esp when you're going to be standing for an hour after Mass teach Sunday School. I always wear stockings, but rarely nylons (at least, rarely the flesh-toned kind). Edited February 9, 2007 by Maria
