Dress Up For Mass?

I agree with LD and Al.

Me, too.

Usually I wear slacks and a nice shirt. Sometimes I'll wear a skirt or dress, but usually only for a particular occasion. I never know what is in store for the rest of the day, so if we go out after Mass I don't want to be wandering around in nylons and heels. Sometimes after Mass we'll decide to go for a walk in the park, out to eat, over to see a friend, or just straight home. I find its easier to juggle Adrienne when I am wearing pantaloons, too. Only very rarely will I go to Mass wearing jeans, and its next to never that I go in shorts.

Shorts at mass are bad, even though I do it . . . never on Sunday but sometimes during the week, becasue mass is in the middle of my day and I sometimes wear shorts to my office. I'm trying to stop that habit.

I would say that you should dress like you were going out on a date. No less for Jesus than for your honey.

Thats exactly how I feel about it! If you're going to dress to the nines for a date then you sure better dress up for God, too!!!

I go on dates in jeans, so I guess I'm ok. :) I'm a very casual, laid-back person and I hate dressing up. It makes me feel very uncomfortable. I don't even have to get dressed up for work, so anything more than khakis or jeans is for a wedding or some similar event.

I go to church on a college campus, so we are kind of lax on the dress code. Especially at the Sunday night mass, you see 90 precent of the people in jeans and/or sweats. I typically dress nicely for mass, dress pantaloons or khakis and a sweater, or a nice skirt or dress. But I like to dress up and it's a good reason for me to!! But, I don't think it's really important what you wear to mass, as long as you are there for the right reason. If your heart is there, it doesn't matter what you wear. On Ash WEdnesday, we have a home basketball game, so almost everyone will be dressed in jeans and kentucky blue for mass. But, that's all part of going to church on a college campus.

Thats the way all the Masses up at Fransiscan U. here in Steubenville is. I've even seen people come to Mass in their jammies! I don't like that at all. <_<

Where I went to college we had a strict dress code for Mass--girls had to be in a dress or skirt and guys had to wear a jacket and tie. Now, I don't think everyone should have to dress like that for Mass, necessarily, I know I didn't like it all that much when I was at school , but I'd rather be in that situation that see girls in their pajamas and pink furry slippers.

We're supposed to wear clothes to Mass!? Wow, that explains all those funny looks!

Anyways, I usually dress semi-formal. But I have worn jeans and shorts. Especially during the summer, cause I worked at a scout camp. Mass was at 10:30 at night, after opening campfire, and we barely had time to make it, no time to change. So, we went in our uniform which, because it was summer, included scout shorts. While I think people should dress apropriately at Mass, I don't think we need to all be in suits and ties or full-length dresses. It's the heart more than the clothing that matters.

true willguy. but depending on the circumstances and the state in life you should attempt to dress the best you can.

Before I first went to Mass as an adult, I checked out the internet to find out what the "form" was. The article I read (can't remember where, sorry it was in my pre-Phatmass days) said dress as though you were going to a fine meal. I use that as a guide, although I do dress more casually on occasion.

I quite agree though, that clothes count for very little if the correct intention is not in the heart! :)

I don't wear suits, I own 1 set, but I don't think I can fit into it now.

Anyways, I wear my best baggy jeans and sweatshirt.

But really, who decides what is acceptable. To me the way I dress to mass is respectful because it's my best clothing, to others, wearing slacks and a tie is the way to go.

It depends on you. But I am sure we could all agree stuff that exposes breast or innapropriate t-shirts like Bud Weiser arn't really acceptable. But then again, like I said, who decides what is appropriate. I don't recall any Vatican documents that have any clarification on what to wear other than Vatican dress codes during the summer.

I only wore a suit once to mass, that was for baptism.... but I feel the way I dress normaly to mass is dressing up, I am not into suits, so dressing up is different to me. (In my parish barely one dresses up formal, but i see no difference to other parishes I have been to where everyone looks like penguins.)
