Paladin D
I learned the hard way. I had cavities inbetween some of my teeth, and I have periodontal gingivitis. It's irreversible, so I'll have to take extra care of my teeth for the rest of my life. I also will have to get regular checkups every 3 to 4 months. If you don't floss, there is a chance you can get periodontal gingivitis. It's an inflamation of the gums, due to bacterial buildup inbetween the gum and the tooth. If you have a family history with it, there is an ever greater chance. I floss usually once a day, or every other day. Or sometimes even twice a day, depending if I ate and have something jammed up there. Edited August 7, 2007 by Paladin D
Totus Tuus
Twice or three times a week, sometimes more. Sometimes I forget and only do it like once. I have on of those nifty flossers that's like a toothbrush, with floss on the end and you change out the head. That makes me do it more because it's easy. Cure of Ars
How prone people are to cavities varies. It's generally dependent on how much fluoride was in your water supply during key development stages in your early childhood, but is somewhat impacted by genes. The exact the location of a cavity is determined by where plaque builds up in an indivuals mouth, and also varies from person to person. If someone has cavities in between their teeth (aka the mesial/distal surfaces) that means plaque is being built up there and needs to be removed. The best way to do this is through floss. Mouthwash is ok, but it's really more for freshening breath and strengthening gums. Everyone should follow the recommendation of their dentist, and not what other people do. Just to reiterate, I work in dental for the Navy, so I know what I'm talking about.
Yes, I forgot to add the disclaimer that you probably should not listen to me when it come to matters of hygiene. But I thought it was self evident. Groo the Wanderer
I generally only floss when it's late at night, need a snack, and don't wanna cook anything. If ya gets enuff of dem leftover bits...mmm...mighty tasty!
Dreamweaver
I brush about twice a week, though I should do it more. To those who don't floss regularly and want to start doing it more often, the worst part is the first couple of weeks. Your gums will bleed until they're used to flossing. After that stage, they'll only bleed if you get crazy aggressive, and you'll feel much better getting all the crud from between them. I've only had one cavity, and it was in the pits of my molar anyhow (my sealants must had worn out).
Norseman82
Once a day, sometimes more. Sometimes cavities don't catch up with you until you are an adult, like it did with me. That's when the dentist pretty much read me the "riot act" regarding my dental hygiene, and even put me on a flouride regimen. I definitely brush more than twice a week, I meant to type "floss", but it is too late to edit now. :-(
