Vincent Vega
Hi everyone, I was talking with a friend tonight, and she told me that it typically takes closer to 5 years for someone to undergo the RCIA process, than the suggested one year. Now, everyone that I've talked to seems to lean toward one year, instead of such a longer period. So I was looking for some official insight as to the average length of time for someone to complete the process and be received. Thanks in advance, Mitch
cappie
I suppose it would depend on the individual, and how long what is called the pre-catechumate lasts. I have never heard it lasting 5 years. In Australia usually the RCIA begins in August - September and concludes the following Easter at the Easter Vigil with the sacraments of initiation, it can continue with a further period of deepening instruction called the Mystagogy which concludes at Pentecost.
