So today I tried putting nothing in it to see how it curled... oh and I also didn't brush it when I got out... and it was horrible. It was SO frizzy. I think some of it had to do with the way I towel dried it though and then didn't touch it. I'm going to keep playing. Still need to make some of that stuff....

yeah, I let my hair dry too much today before styling so it was frizzier. Charlotte was cranky and needed to eat... then I went outside and it was pouring rain and I came back inside (couldn't walk to Mass in thunder and lightning with my 3 kids in tow) and now its just in a pony tail. lol

I washed, towel dried, ran my fingers through my hair the way I normally would... I think I forgot to brush but that won't make a huge difference today. I'm just letting it air dry and then I can show you how it looks when I don't put anything in it. I can already see the halo of frizz rising. lol

Ok, so... this is pretty hideous, try and contain yourselves (it might be a little harder to tell, but I have at least an inch and a half halo of frizz spazzing out from the rest of my hair--I always have some but this is really, really bad--my hair is clearly not as nice looking as in my other picture--this is definitely a bad hair day). I even put on make up so it wouldn't look like one of those fake before and after photos. lol This is really how my hair looks if I don't put anything in it (and by "anything" I mean "Sara's Fabulous Hair Goo").

:)

Adrienne saw that picture of me with my hair bleached and she said "Who's that girl with the curly orange hair?" (she just got up for a drink and went back to bed) She couldn't figure it out so I told her. I'm not sure if she believed me. lol

My sister in law uses it and her hair is so straight (and thin) it won't hold a curl. I would imagine it would be good for wavy hair, too. I've used it when I straighten my hair, too, which isn't exactly the same, but it really helps smooth out a lot of the flyaways.

 • 3 months later...
Ok, as requested by Hughey and Brigid, here's the recipe for the hair cream I use. The initial cost of the ingredients may be a little pricey depending on where you can get them and how much your health food store charges, but it'll be worth it because with the ingredients you've bought you can make this stuff over and over.

This is what I like to call "Sarah's Fabulous Hair Goo" (Sarah is the sister in law who gave me the recipe). :) As you'll note its primary ingredients are oil and beeswax so if you use too much it'll make your hair look greasy (yeah, I made that mistake at least once) so I'd recommend the first time you use it apply it on a day you don't have to rush, that way if you use too much you can wash it out. You can also use it on your skin, so if you don't like it on your hair you can always use it for other stuff. :)

1 TBS cocoa or mango butter
1 TBS beeswax
1/4 C. cosmetic oil (sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, jojoba oil, etc.)
1/4 C. rosewater
1 TBS aloe vera gel
1/2 tsp borax (you know, the 20 Mule Team stuff you see in the grocery store next to laundry detergent)
1 tsp. honey
1 tsp. orange essential oil

Slowly melt oil, wax, and cocoa/mango butter in a double boiler.

In a separate pan gently warm the rosewater, honey, borax, and aloe vera gel.

Slowly add the water mixture to the oils and whisk with a wire whisk--you can also use an electric beater, it will go faster if you do, you'll be stirring a long time if you do it by hand. Add orange essential oil. Blend till cool and thick. Store in a jar or tub (those disposable ziplock containers would work). Outside the fridge expect it to keep for about a month, inside the fridge it will stay fresh considerably longer (and remain a bit firmer).

Some of the ingredients will be readily available at a regular grocery store or Wal Mart, but the oils and rose water you'll definitely need to get at the health food store. The beeswax you may need to hit up a craft store to find. If you can't find any let me know, I can hack off a chunk of mine and send it to you if you like (I have like 5 lbs worth of wax, I won't be needing THAT much any time soon). Walgreens sells tubes of pure cocoa butter for 99 cents, so that will a cheap and easy way of getting that ingredient as well (I know some other places sell it, too, so check that out before you buy an expensive tub of the stuff from a health food store). I actually had all this stuff on hand the first time I made it, with the exception of the orange oil and rosewater. lol
bump for myself for tomorrow :hehe:
