Lounge Daddy
Heck ya! [NEWS]
Drew Carey Ready to Take on ‘The Price Is Right’ Drew Carey was sitting in a Cracker Barrel restaurant in North Carolina a little over a month ago when his cellphone buzzed with a call from his agent. A CBS casting manager, Mr. Carey was told, was looking to talk to him. “In my head,” Mr. Carey recalled today, “I start thinking, ‘They want me to be a guest on C.S.I.’ ” No, Mr. Carey was gently informed, CBS was looking for someone to replace Bob Barker as host of “The Price Is Right.” “Whoever does that is going to be an idiot or desperate for work,” Mr. Carey replied, or at least that’s how he recalled it today. “How would you like to fill a legend’s shoes? Get somebody else.” Fast-forward to Monday night, when Mr. Carey announced during an appearance on “Late Show With David Letterman” that CBS had found its idiot. Beginning sometime this fall he will take over for Mr. Barker, who retired in June at 83 after 35 years on the job.
That awesome! Carey is going to be a sweet host of Price is Right. That's great

homeschoolmom
I think he's funny... but boy, I wouldn't want to try to fill Bob Barker's shoes.... 35 years is a loong time... for a tv show... not a HSmom...

I like Drew Carey, but I'm afraid of being disappointed. Growing up with Bob Barker... I can't imagine anyone else hosting that show. I was sad when Rod Roddy died and got replaced. The new guy's voice just isn't the same.
Cow of Shame
I give it another 4-5 seasons.
LOL I was sad when Johnny Oleson died and Rod Roddy took his place.... That Rod in his flashy suits... was not the same as Johnny in his nice brown suit. I bet they will try to make some great new format change and it will tank.
Don't know why they don't just cancel the show...
Yep... Go out on a high note... Btw, has anyone seen the "original" Price is Right? I used to watch it on Game Show Network. Here's the snippet from Wikipedia: Main article: The Price Is Right (1956 game show) The original format, which first aired on the NBC and ABC television networks in the United States from 1956 until 1965, hosted by Bill Cullen, generally involved four contestants bidding on lavish prizes; after a predetermined number of bids, the player whose bid was closest to the correct value of the prize (without going over) would win it. At show's end, the player who had won the most (by dollar value) was declared the champion and returned to play again on the next episode. No funny games, no "come on down"... no screaming contestants.... just a very civil 50s gameshow... and you might win a new coffee urn. Very different. And only 30 minutes. OH! Which reminds me... I remember the game before they had the BIG WHEEL... It used to be that the top two winning contestants would go head to head in the Showcase Showdown. T-Bone _
I just remembered on Wheel of Fortune that they had to "buy" prizes with the money that they'd just won...
Cow of Shame
Yeah...and the items were insanely pricey. Didn't seem fair to go through all of that just to buy a $50 tv for $200 of your gameshow money
homeschoolmom
And you had spend down until there were no prizes left you could buy... "Okay, Chuck... I guess I'll buy the ceramic beagle for $175"
IcePrincessKRS
Why are game shows so insanely ridiculous? But do you ever watch the Price is Right and wonder where they heck the contestants are buying their peanut butter because you KNOW the price of that jar of Skippy and it sure as heck isn't the 6.49 that the little old lady stuck on it? Or is that just me?

homeschoolmom
I always buy PB in the 4.50 range... but that's a huge jar..... I'm guessing those are the California prices.
