As a linguistics student I can't help but find these views apalling.

Which word is not English "potato" or "chip"?
Why is it that the Brits always think they can speak better English than us?

I say we should just stop pretending we speak the same language and start telling the truth. We speak American.
Do you mean, "why is it that the Brits always think they can speak better English than we?"

As a Canadian, I speak ENGLISH. I believe the British have a foothold on "Crisps" because "chips" refer to the wedges of potatoes that are fried up and served with fish. Basically, the gull is amazing, though.

Btw, there is no such thing as the language "American". Otherwise, I would be bilingual. :lol_roll:

I beg to differ! The potato is indigenous to the Americas! They are ours to name!

I agree about the gull,, pretty amazing. And he gets the whole town to pay for his lunch every day. I need a gig like that.

There's no such thing as a British accent.
Actually, Peru really has 'ownership' of potatoes. But I think the Irish should have some say...I mean, who knows more ways to cook potatoes than us???

Last I checked Peru was part of the Americas. However, the many varieties of these tubers are native to many places not just Peru.

However, I must agree that the Irish are great with potatoes. Probably better than anyone else. They should have a say. (I am not bias. Ignore my Irish hertitage.)

I'm with you..... we Canadians do it right.

A happy, and honourable (hehehe), middle ground
