Fiction gives you that opportunity.
Amen. Fiction rocks ... I also love creative non-fiction.

I liked it.
I think fiction itself will ruin your brain unless it is epic poetry. I prefer to stick to catechisms and theology books.
Wisdom is to be found in good literature. (Even in non-epic poetry!) Often, though stories may be fictitious, they express wisdom and truth.
Well, I mean, I still think it's good just to read theology books and catechisms, but if what you learn from them is not applied to your life that you are worse off than if you did not gain all that knowledge.
Well, that is a good piece of wisdom right there. :)

The best part of the book is after Voldemort kills Harry and Jack Bauer shows up to torture Voldemort for the final horcrux location.

and you know what?

I hated the fact that
Snape died without a fight. He should have fought this amazing duel like Mrs. Weasley had with Bellatrix, but no. A snake bit him. Snap!
my EVERYTHING!

I agree that fiction can be good - take for example the Lord of the Rings. While rare for something of that greatness to be written, it provides an excellent example of what fiction is supposed to do. Being fiction and having good entertainment value, it also has many excellent theological points and calls its readers to greater virtue.

Ooooh. Is that my problem? Duly noted
I really have never partaken in the hype. Fantasy stuff would put me to sleep! Plus there is quite a bit of contraversy over the books. I think that I will choose to not partake this time either.
You just haven't read the right kind of fiction. There's some excellent stuff out there. It runs the gamut of high-brow to utter crapola.

I just don't understand the controversy. If you're old enough to discern that what you're reading is make believe, then there's very little danger in reading it. It's not going to change your mind about your religious beliefs. It's not encouraging people to get into wicca or pagan rituals. However, if you're choosing not to read them because Rowling's literary skills are a bit weak, then I can completely agree with you. I was satisfied with the ending of her series, but she's an on-again off-again writer. Her books just don't flow terribly well.
