Resurrexi
Since my other thread either went against some rule about spoilers or was thought to be bad because it was thought that Harry Potter hasn't been released yet (which it has in the UK) I would just like to make this thread now about discussion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I read the Wikipedia article about it and I found the end unsatisfying. What are your insights? (Mods, I apologize, if this thread goes against guidelines again, and feel free to delete it if it does)
Lil Red
a much better thread than your last one. : thank you for posting it in a different manner!
Maggyie
I only ever read the first couple books, after which I just read spoilers and summaries. The ending isn't too bad, I don't think, although I thought more "central" characters would die, especially... ahem... Harry.
123
I have yet to read Order of the Phoenix and am eager to read The Deathy Hallows I figured I'll buy a copy here in a few months when the price goes down. That gives me enough time to read the previous book.
Lil Red
did you know you can hide spoilers by using the spoiler tags? like this: [ spoiler ] [ /spoiler ] without the spaces?

Megz
My feeling is that Harry is not an epic hero* because he dosn't stay dead. *by the literary definition of epic hero
Brigid
oh... honestly, I thought JKR did a good job with the ending, because she would have had millions of angry fans if she killed him off and millions of angry fans if she didn't... so she did both. seems to me like a good compromise. and I TOTALLY predicted Lupin dying... see, he, Dumbledore, and Sirius are my three favorite characters in the whole series, and after Sirius died in book five, and Dumbledore in book six... I knew poor Remus didn't stand a chance.

Sojourner
That was sad ... There was a lot sad about it. You know, when he's walking into the Forbidden Forest at the end, and he has his family all around him, and he no longer fears the dementors? That totally made me think of Psalm 23 ... "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil ..." It was really beautiful ...
kateri05
oh, you're RIGHT!! that is SUCh a great connection! i totally cried,** when he asked "does it hurt?" it wouldn't have made a difference the answer, but the human attachment to life is so great that he just had to ask. thats one of the best things about Christ being fully human, is that He really gets how much humans LOVE life and thus, how hard it truly is to lay it down for someone else. and harry was feeling that same. its real fortitude (as in the Gift of the Spirit), because its not about not being "scared," its about knowing and doing the right thing because the power of God is bigger than your fear. **ok, i totally cried like 45 times. but still. :

Cow of Shame
Everyone should have foreseen the death of Tonks & Remus. I mean, c'mon...Harry as godfather? You know you're sealing your fate if you do something as stupid as that. It's no big shock that Harry lived. Rowling has said that she knew how she wanted the series to end, back when she started writing. Other than someone like me, who starts a *children's book* with the plan to have the main character die a horrible death at the end? Pinkly Torrus the fuzzy kitten pranced his way through the meadows, smiling at the sun, the clouds and the butterflies. "Wow," thought Pinkly, "life is such a wonde...." his piercing scream ceased only after his fluffy tabby body hit the rock-filled bottom of the hidden crevasse that he had inadvertently fallen into. Diamond
I loved it. What did everyone think about the use of Bible verses on the Potters' and Peverell's tombstones? After a lack of overt religious references in earlier books, I thought that was a really interesting/perhaps daring move by Rowling. Anyways, my one disappointment was how little time Snape got. Chapter 33 ("The Prince's Tale") was beautiful, though.
