Lucy
Catholics can get divorced for grave reasons, they just cannot remarry. The Scripture says "what God has joined, let no man part", and we take God at His word. Annullments are not divorces, it simply means the conditions of marriage were not fulfilled at the time of the marriage, no marriage ever existed.
I'm sorry, this might be a little off topic. I have never heard that Catholics can get divorced. I thought (if absolutely necessary) they could get an annulment. Isn't a divorce something the government organized? T-Bone _
The divorce is a civil one, yes. But it is not a sin, if the divorce is for a grave reason. You still can't get married without the declaration of nullity though.
XIX
And...about 90% of people who apply for annulments, get them. That pretty interesting, on a few levels.

Right?
That is debatable. Yes there are a lot of annulments, but is it because the courts are way too lenient, or is it because the society is so screwed up kids today lack ANY concept of committment and hard work found in marriage because they have never seen it? I think the latter is mostly the case.
