journeyman
Psalm 134 (Douay-Rheims) An exhortation to praise God: the vanity of idols. 1 Alleluia. Praise ye the name of the Lord: O you his servants, praise the Lord: 2 You that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God. 3 Praise ye the Lord, for the Lord is good: sing ye to his name, for it is sweet. 4 For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself: Israel for his own possession. 5 For I have known that the Lord is great, and our God is above all gods. 6 Whatsoever the Lord pleased he hath done, in heaven, in earth, in the sea, and in all the deeps. 7 He bringeth up clouds from the end of the earth: he hath made lightnings for the rain. He bringeth forth winds out of his stores: 8 He slew the firstborn of Egypt from man even unto beast. 9 He sent forth signs and wonders in the midst of thee, O Egypt: upon Pharao, and upon all his servants. 10 He smote many nations, and slew mighty kings: 11 Sehon king of the Amorrhites, and Og king of Basan, and all the kingdoms of Chanaan. 12 And gave their land for an inheritance, for an inheritance to his people Israel. 13 Thy name, O Lord, is for ever: thy memorial, O Lord, unto all generations. 14 For the Lord will judge his people, and will be entreated in favour of his servants. 15 The idols of the Gentiles are silver and gold, the works of men's hands. 16 They have a mouth, but they speak not: they have eyes, but they see not. 17 They have ears, but they hear not: neither is there any breath in their mouths. 18 Let them that make them be like to them: and every one that trusteth in them. 19 Bless the Lord, O house of Israel: bless the Lord, O house of Aaron. 20 Bless the Lord, O house of Levi: you that fear the Lord, bless the Lord. 21 Blessed be the Lord out of Sion, who dwelleth in Jerusalem. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. KnightofChrist
Psalm 136 (Douay-Rheims) Super flumina. The lamentation of the people of God in their captivity in Babylon. A psalm of David, for Jeremias. For the time of Jeremias, and the captivity of Babylon. 1 Upon the rivers of Babylon, there we sat and wept: when we remembered Sion: 2 On the willows in the midst thereof we hung up our instruments. 3 For there they that led us into captivity required of us the words of songs. And they that carried us away, said: Sing ye to us a hymn of the songs of Sion. 4 How shall we sing the song of the Lord in a strange land? 5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand be forgotten. 6 Let my tongue cleave to my jaws, if I do not remember thee: If I make not Jerusalem the beginning of my joy. 7 Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom, in the day of Jerusalem: Who say: Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof. 8 O daughter of Babylon, miserable: blessed shall he be who shall repay thee thy payment which thou hast paid us. 9 Blessed be he that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, unto the ages of ages. Amen. AccountDeleted
Psalm 137 (Douay-Rheims) Confitebor tibi. Thanksgiving to God for his benefits. 1 I will praise thee, O lord, with my whole heart: for thou hast heard the words of my mouth. I will sing praise to thee in the sight of his angels: 2 I will worship towards thy holy temple, and I will give glory to thy name. For thy mercy, and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy holy name above all. 3 In what day soever I shall call upon thee, hear me: thou shall multiply strength in my soul. 4 May all the kings of the earth give glory to thee: for they have heard all the words of thy mouth. 5 And let them sing in the ways of the Lord: for great is the glory of the Lord. 6 For the Lord is high, and looketh on the low: and the high he knoweth afar off. 7 If I shall walk in the midst of tribulation, thou wilt quicken me: and thou hast stretched forth thy hand against the wrath of my enemies: and thy right hand hath saved me. 8 The Lord will repay for me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: O despise not the work of thy hands. journeyman
Psalm 138 (Douay-Rheims) God's special providence over his servants. 1 Unto the end, a psalm of David. Lord, thou hast proved me, and known me: 2 Thou hast known my sitting down, and my rising up. 3 Thou hast understood my thoughts afar off: my path and my line thou hast searched out. 4 And thou hast foreseen all my ways: for there is no speech in my tongue. There is no speech, etc... Viz., unknown to thee: or when there is no speech in my tongue; yet my whole interior and my most secret thoughts are known to thee. 5 Behold, O Lord, thou hast known all things, the last and those of old: thou hast formed me, and hast laid thy hand upon me. 6 Thy knowledge is become wonderful to me: it is high, and I cannot reach to it. 7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy face? 8 If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I descend into hell, thou art present. 9 If I take my wings early in the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea: 10 Even there also shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall hold me. 11 And I said: Perhaps darkness shall cover me: and night shall be my light in my pleasures. 12 But darkness shall not be dark to thee, and night shall be light all the day: the darkness thereof, and the light thereof are alike to thee. 13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast protected me from my mother's womb. 14 I will praise thee, for thou art fearfully magnified: wonderful are thy works, and my soul knoweth right well. 15 My bone is not hidden from thee, which thou hast made in secret: and my substance in the lower parts of the earth. 16 Thy eyes did see my imperfect being, and in thy book all shall be written: days shall be formed, and no one in them. 17 But to me thy friends, O God, are made exceedingly honourable: their principality is exceedingly strengthened. 18 I will number them, and they shall be multiplied above the sand, I rose up and am still with thee. 19 If thou wilt kill the wicked, O God: ye men of blood, depart from me: 20 Because you say in thought: They shall receive thy cities in vain. Because you say in thought, etc... Depart from me, you wicked, who plot against the servants of God, and think to cast them out of the cities of their habitation; as if they have received them in vain, and to no purpose. 21 Have I not hated them, O Lord, that hated thee: and pined away because of thy enemies? 22 I have hated them with a perfect hatred: and they are become enemies to me. I have hated them... Not with an hatred of malice, but a zeal for the observance of God's commandments; which he saw were despised by the wicked, who are to be considered enemies to God. 23 Prove me, O God, and know my heart: examine me, and know my paths. 24 And see if there be in me the way of iniquity: and lead me in the eternal way. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. journeyman
Psalm 139 (Douay-Rheims) A prayer to be delivered from the wicked. 1 Unto the end, a psalm of David. 2 Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: rescue me from the unjust man. 3 Who have devised iniquities in their hearts: all the day long they designed battles. 4 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent: the venom of asps is under their lips. 5 Keep me, O Lord, from the hand of the wicked: and from unjust men deliver me. Who have proposed to supplant my steps: 6 The proud have hidden a net for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare: they have laid for me a stumbling block by the wayside. 7 I said to the Lord: Thou art my God: hear, O Lord, the voice of my supplication. 8 O Lord, Lord, the strength of my salvation: thou hast overshadowed my head in the day of battle. 9 Give me not up, O Lord, from my desire to the wicked: they have plotted against me; do not thou forsake me, lest they should triumph. 10 The head of them compassing me about: the labour of their lips shall overwhelm them. 11 Burning coals shall fall upon them; thou wilt cast them down into the fire: in miseries they shall not be able to stand. 12 A man full of tongue shall not be established in the earth: evil shall catch the unjust man unto destruction. 13 I know that the Lord will do justice to the needy, and will revenge the poor. 14 But as for the just, they shall give glory to thy name: and the upright shall dwell with thy countenance. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. With men that work iniquity: and I will not communicate with the choicest of them. 5 The just man shall correct me in mercy, and shall reprove me: but let not the oil of the sinner fatten my head. For my prayer shall still be against the things with which they are well pleased: 6 Their judges falling upon the rock have been swallowed up. They shall hear my words, for they have prevailed: 7 As when the thickness of the earth is broken up upon the ground: Our bones are scattered by the side of hell. 8 But to you, O Lord, Lord, are my eyes: in you have I put my trust, take not away my soul. 9 Keep me from the snare, which they have laid for me, and from the stumbling blocks of them that work iniquity. 10 The wicked shall fall in his net: I am alone until I pass. KnightofChrist
Psalm 142 Domine, exaudi. The psalmist in tribulation calleth upon God for his delivery. The seventh penitential psalm. 1 Hear, O Lord, my prayer: give ear to my supplication in thy truth: hear me in thy justice. 2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight no man living shall be justified. 3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul: he hath brought down my life to the earth. He hath made me to dwell in darkness as those that have been dead of old: 4 And my spirit is in anguish within me: my heart within me is troubled. 5 I remembered the days of old, I meditated on all thy works: I meditated upon the works of thy hands. 6 I stretched forth my hands to thee: my soul is as earth without water unto thee. 7 Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit hath fainted away. Turn not away thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. 8 Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning; for in thee have I hoped. Make the way known to me, wherein I should walk: for I have lifted up my soul to thee. 9 Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord, to thee have I fled: 10 Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Thy good spirit shall lead me into the right land: 11 For thy name's sake, O Lord, thou wilt quicken me in thy justice. Thou wilt bring my soul out of trouble: 12 And in thy mercy thou wilt destroy my enemies. And thou wilt cut off all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, until the ages of ages, Amen. Amen. journeyman
Psalm 142 1 Of understanding for David, A prayer when he was in the cave. 2 I cried to the Lord with my voice: with my voice I made supplication to the Lord. 3 In his sight I pour out my prayer, and before him I declare my trouble: 4 When my spirit failed me, then you knew my paths. In this way wherein I walked, they have hidden a snare for me. 5 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, and there was no one that would know me. Flight has failed me: and there is no one that has regard to my soul. 6 I cried to you, O Lord: I said: You are my hope, my portion in the land of the living. 7 Attend to my supplication: for I am brought very low. Deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. 8 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise your name: the just wait for me, until you reward me. journeyman
Psalm 144 A psalm of David against Goliath. 1 Blessed be the Lord my God, who teaches my hands to fight, and my fingers to war. 2 My mercy, and my refuge: my support, and my deliverer: My protector, and I have hoped in him: who subdues my people under me. 3 Lord, what is man, that you are made known to him? Or the son of man, that you make account of him? 4 Man is like to 8vanity: his days pass away like a shadow. 5 Lord, bow down your heavens and descend: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke. 6 Send forth lightning, and you shall scatter them: shoot out your arrows, and you shall trouble them. 7 Put forth your hand from on high, take me out, and deliver me from many waters: from the hand of strange children: 8 Whose mouth has spoken vanity: and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity. 9 To you, O God, I will sing a new canticle: on the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings I will sing praises to you. 10 Who give salvation to kings: who have redeemed your servant David from the malicious sword: 11 Deliver me, And rescue me out of the hand of strange children; whose mouth has spoken vanity: and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity: 12 Whose sons are as new plants in their youth: Their daughters decked out, adorned round about after the similitude of a temple: 13 Their storehouses full, flowing out of this into that. Their sheep fruitful in young, abounding in their goings forth: 14 Their oxen fat. There is no breach of wall, nor passage, nor crying out in their streets. 15 They have called the people happy, that has these things: but happy is that people whose God is the Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. The Lord is faithful in all his words: and holy in all his works. 14 The Lord lifts up all that fall: and sets up all that are cast down. 15 The eyes of all hope in you, O Lord: and you give them meat in due season. 16 You open your hand, and fill with blessing every living creature. 17 The Lord is just in all his ways: and holy in all his works. 18 The Lord is near unto all them that call upon him: to all that call upon him in truth. 19 He will do the will of them that fear him: and he will hear their prayer, and save them. 20 The Lord keeps all them that love him; but all the wicked he will destroy. 21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: and let all flesh bless his holy name forever; yea, for ever and ever. journeyman
Psalm 147 1 Praise the Lord, because psalm is good: to our God be joyful and comely praise. 2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem: he will gather together the dispersed of Israel. 3 Who heals the broken of heart, and binds up their bruises. 4 Who tells the number of the stars: and calls them all by their names. 5 Great is our Lord, and great is his power: and of his wisdom there is no number. 6 The Lord lifts up the meek, and brings the wicked down even to the ground. 7 Sing to the Lord with praise: sing to our God upon the harp. 8 Who covers the heaven with clouds, and prepares rain for the earth. Who makes grass to grow on the mountains, and herbs for the service of men. 9 Who gives to beasts their food: and to the young ravens that call upon him. 10 He shall not delight in the strength of the horse: nor take pleasure in the legs of a man. 11 The Lord takes pleasure in them that fear him: and in them that hope in his mercy. 12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem: praise your God, O Sion. 13 Because he has strengthened the bolts of your gates, he has blessed your children within you. 14 Who has placed peace in your borders: and fills you with the fat of corn. 15 Who sends forth his speech to the earth: his word runs swiftly. 16 Who gives snow like wool: scatters mists like ashes. 17 He sends his crystal like morsels: who shall stand before the face of his cold? 18 He shall send out his word, and shall melt them: his wind shall blow, and the waters shall run. 19 Who declares his word to Jacob: his justices and his judgments to Israel. 20 He has not done in like manner to every nation: and his judgments he has not made manifest to them. Alleluia. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
