Chiquitunga
This is seriously an incredible book, with great advice on assisting at Holy Mass and offering a thanksgiving after Holy Communion. I love St. Peter Julian Eymard, and how he writes! I feel I cannot recommend this book enough. It's part of a series of books in the Eymard Library. I haven't read the others in the series yet. The Blessed Sacrament Fathers in Cleveland I've found have the best price for it. Sophia Press published a shortened version of it too, a few years ago, How to Get More Out of Holy Communion, which is great also, although I'd recommend the original. Some of the chapter titles: Preparation for Communion The Holy Sacrifice Method of Hearing Holy Mass by Meditation on the Passion Method of Hearing Holy Mass by Entering into the Spirit of the Holy Sacrifice Method of Hearing Holy Mass by Meditation on the Seven Words Upon the Cross Directions for Thanksgiving After Holy Communion The Prolongation of the Incarnation Communion, The Source of Confidence in God Communion, The Remedy for Our Sadness An excerpt from the chapter on thanksgiving:
"The most solemn moments of your life are those you spend in thanksgiving, when the King of heaven and earth, your Savior and your Judge, is yours, fully inclined to grant all you ask of Him. Devote half an hour if possible, to this thanksgiving or, at the very least, fifteen minutes. Rather than abridge your thanksgiving, it would be better, if necessary, to shorten your preparation instead; for there is no more holy, no more salutary moment for you than when you possess Jesus in your body and in your soul ..."
Laudate_Dominum
I've had the joy of reading some of the Eymard Library and I must say I totally agree!! I wish that every adoration chapel in the world had this set of books.
phatcatholic
here's a youtube video on St. Peter Julian Eymard and hearing the Mass: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jtJb_zWDw0U pretty dope
Chiquitunga
Whoa, that's so great, phatcatholic! THANK YOU for posting this!!! There's another video too there on St. Eymard's meditations during Mass! I wasn't sure how popular this book was or not. I just randomly came upon it at a Pauline bookstore once, but most Catholic bookstores don't have it - just the shortened version, How to Get More Out of Holy Communion. I have seen more often Fulton Sheen's, Calvary and the Mass, which is also great. I was searching online for a picture of it and couldn't find it, just this one on amazon used books that's selling for $64.99 - so I just scanned mine in. You can get the new edition from the Blessed Sacrament Fathers for $7.95. You can also use these methods at the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite too - both the same one Sacrifice on Calvary. I do greatly love the Extraordinary Form though, and go whenever I can. Thanks again for posting this!!
Chiquitunga
Actually, when I first came upon this book a few years ago, and found these methods so great, I wasn't even aware of another form of Mass in the Roman Rite besides the Ordinary. So I just wanted to be sure to say again, these methods of hearing Mass are not exclusive to the Extraordinary Form, but are just as applicable to any form of the Holy Mass/Divine Liturgy. Chiquitunga
An inspiring quote from this post by St. Veronica Guiliani .. "Every time we receive Communion, our soul and heart become a temple of the Most Holy Trinity and, with God coming to us, all Paradise comes. In this joy, I saw how God exists, enclosed in the most Holy Host, and this grace was for me superior to all other graces, I have ever received in my life." Chiquitunga
Thank you, carmelitefriend :j Happy feast day of St. Peter Julian Eymard!
"Now Jesus Christ, God and Man, enters into us and enacts a mystery similar to the one wrought in Mary's womb ... the Eucharist passes into our bodies and, uniting with us, prolongs, extends the Incarnation to each of us separately. In becoming incarnate in the Virgin Mary, the Word had in view this incarnation in each one of us, this Communion with the individual soul; it was one of the ends for which He came into the world. Communion is the perfect development, the full unfoldment of the Incarnation, as it is likewise the completion of the sublime sacrifice of Calvary, renewed each morning in the Mass." ~St. Peter Julian Eymard, Holy Communion

Chiquitunga
A few inspiring quotes I wanted to add here on the Holy Eucharist .. from from the Servant of God, Marthe Robin
"Our degree of glory in Heaven will be proportionate to the quality of fervor of our Holy Communions on earth."
More on her, here (pdf file)
Chiquitunga
Then this from, The Holy Eucharist in the Life of Mother Teresa
In the sacristies of the Sisters of the Missionaries of Charity all over the world, one can see a little board hanging to remind each priest that he should celebrate each Mass with devotion, freshness, contemplation and enthusiasm. The board says: Priest of God, Celebrate this Mass as if it is your first Mass, Your last Mass and your only Mass. Of course, these words apply to the celebrant as well as the participants.
I find this incredibly inspiring! I'd like to make a holy card or plague of this saying. If we could really do this - to go to each Mass and Holy Communion, as if it were our first, last, and only ..
