tojo
I don't mind "Holy Ghost" but I tend to prefer Holy Spirit, In my personal experience, "Holy Ghost" tends to be used more by (fundamentalist) Christians who use the King James Version of the Bible primarily. BG45
I prefer Holy Spirit...no real reason that I can place my finger on though.
I heard Fr. Pacwa explain it once. I think "Ghost" comes from the old German word for Spirit, or something along those lines.
"Geist" maybe?
prose
I use Holy Spirit most often, but I voted both, because I have used both.
prose
Holy Ghost makes me think of a dinner prayer my dad said once: "Father, Son, Holy Ghost: whoever eats fastest gets the most. Amen."
Groo the Wanderer
Both are acceptable, but Spirit is most correct these days, since the meaning of ghost has changed a bit over the centuries....

Chiquitunga
Holy Ghost makes me think of a dinner prayer my dad said once: "Father, Son, Holy Ghost: whoever eats fastest gets the most. Amen."
Me too! St. Bernadette's brother said that in the movie, Song of Bernadette. I pretty much always use Holy Spirit, as that's all I ever heard until recently. I think it's a better translation of the Latin really. But in some traditional hymns like, "Come Holy Ghost, Creator Blest .." I think it definitely should not be changed to "Come Holy Spirit," as I've seen some translations. :/ It sounds totally off then. Maria
Normally I use Holy Spirit, but I voted both. I did have to explain it to my catechism class this past year, though I used Bible Lessons (Kingdom of God series) a couple of times in the year, and of course they said Holy Ghost. The kids thought it was hilarious. Holy Ghost has Germanic origins If we wanted it to have Latin origins, it would be Saint Spirit Holy Spirit is mixed up, like all of English. Starets
I prefer "Holy Spirit". I't what I am used to and it seems a bit more formal and less "buddy-ish".

Actually when I THINK about it I can't figure out which one I use more often. But I do use both.
Hirsap
Personally I use "Holy Spirit" but in principle I think both are acceptable, which is why I voted EITHER. I'd be somewhat cautious about using the "Holy Ghost" especially when you are trying to evangelise people, due to the connotation that (now) comes with the word ghost. It takes an opportunity away for a cheap shot against the faith to be made
