Just as an aside: what election counts more in the USA? I know the Presidential one gets publicised way more, but when it comes to laws being passed - and general influence -which one is more important?

I miss out this year's federal election in Australia :sadder: so another 3 yrs bfore I vote.
Basically (it gets complicated), there is a congressional election every 2 years. Congress is both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Congress is the US legislative body (Australian equivalent would be Parliament). Congress passes the laws. Those have to be signed by the president. It gets complicated with vetoes and countervetoes.

There are two parts to the presidential election. The first is the popular vote, which is when "the people" cast their votes. The second is the electoral college vote. Each state gets votes in proportion to its population-populous states get more votes, less populous states get less votes. The candidate that gets the most electoral votes wins. The electoral college usually follows the result of the popular vote. Again, it gets messy.
I'm not 18 yet but I will be for the next presidential election. My first priority is that the canidate be pro-life! Other than that I'm not that into politics... don't worry though, I'll make an educated vote when the time comes.

I'll be 17 during the next election, but if I could vote I would support Senator Sam Brownback-if he goes far enough into the election. He's a catholic convert, he's very strongly pro-life in all cases, and he also wants to put more emphasis on family in our society, which is quickly declining.

There are some really good videos on youtube for him:
Senator Sam BrownBack is catholic and pro-life AND A REPUBLICAN!

yep, that's Sam Brownback too. Like I said, he's very pro life and very pro family and pro marriage protection too. :)
Mmmkay if I was going to be legal next year then I would definetly vote for him! ^_^

Yeah, he's seems like he would make a really good president! It's too bad Obama, Clinton, and Rudy Giuliani are really popular. And I think all of them are for abortion too.

Pro-life, any party . . . unfortunately, neither the Republicans or Democrats have quite what I want in a candidate. But maybe my expectations are too high.

no we need to keep our expectations high, we won't take less then satisfactory. if you don't vote it probably because you are protesting the lack of morals.

I would vote for Brownback, but hes no contender sadly. I will always vote based on morals, so in this case I would take Fred Thompson over Rudy, or any of the democrats. Thompson is a real Christian conserative who has a shot.

I don't know why any of these people are...

On the other hand, I really cannot stand anything that has to do with politics. I personally don't see anything wrong with George W Bush. I mean sure he's made some mistakes. No freaking duh. He's human. I think he's done a pretty dang good job. I'd like to see someone go up and deal with all he's had to and try to make it better, and then complain.

<_<

i am not 18 yet but i will not vote for anybody because pope John Paul 2nd send bush a letter asking him to stop the war and he disoveyed.

hilary is not bad but her ideas make her bad becuase i do not jusge people but i judge actions so i do not go for democrats because of their beliefs if john macain runs i wont vote for him he also supports thge war.

i used to be at the wars side but now since i have had training in the navy sea cadets they told us lots of things. the war is not to protect the people but to bring gas in the U.S.

i do not trust any politic right now i will have to wait and obama is not a good leader just as hilary because they are liberals one is muslim the other is feminist i dislike their i deas. i will vote for none.

all though the only one i vote is for God
