Nope and nope.

I now shy away from meeting people online ... too often, the people I've met that way are not "as advertised" when you actually meet in person. Finding that out after you've invested in relationship through e-mails, phone calls, etc. ... I'd rather not go through that again. I'd rather do it through mutual friends who can be honest about a person's pros and cons. Sure you can run into some of the same problems, but there's less chance of a person being able to be totally dishonest about themselves and their intentions when you know each other in real life and are part of the same network of friends.
True - although I'd say unrealisticaly high expectations can be as much a problem as actual dishonesty (not judging your particular cases here).

What gets me most is the common female game of expressing interest in meeting then not returning calls or backing out at the last minute.
And for people far away, there's all the problems intrinsic to long-distance relationships - it takes more commitment on both ends than many are initially prepared to invest.

Yeah, in retrospect I did expect too much, more than I should have. And I made the mistake of allowing myself to trust someone I'd never met. That won't happen again.

Kinda yeah. Turns out she was just starting to attend the same parish I was attending, but it's a pretty big parish and they don't have a lot for people in their 20s. We may have eventually met, but who knows.

I think websites that are designed to find romance are dumb. There, I said it. Which isn't to say that they are ineffective, I just feel that using any website (even a Catholic one) to 'find someone' really doesn't say a whole lot about one's trust in the Lord. Sorry! I feel it truly limits God's infinite creativity to whomever you decide to connect with, speak to, interact with. Millions of people have been led to their future spouses without a search engine or social map... why can't you? *shrugs*

So no, I don't have one.

Why limit God? What if He's asking someone to step out in faith, saying, "maybe I just have to humble myself and admit that, hey, I think I'm called to marriage, and I'm not having a whole lot of success on the dating scene"?

Supposedly, either JPII or B16's parents (I forget which) met through a personal ad. In some ways it's more direct and honest than some other ways of going about it. Sometimes it's maddening trying to find out whether the other person is single, dating, or a probable future priest/nun/brother/monk/cowboy (I'm assuming that married people are identified by the rings ruling them and clergy are in some sort of ... clerical garb)

Noel's angel

You can't get married if you're a cowboy???

BTW, it was Pope Benedict XVI's parent who met via a personal ad :)
