Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Wow...

In my humble opinion, this is BY FAR the best movie to date. Simply amazing. They tweeked it a bit--the whole Harry/Cho Chang thing was virtually unrecognizable from its original plotline; Luna Lovegood was more cute and quirky than strange and peculiar-- but, overall, the changes were painless and, in most cases, pleasant.

I can't wait to see what they've got in store for the Half-Blood Prince.

This may be more a complaint about the books (I haven't read them all) than with the movies, but Draco Malfoy is the most invincibly static character I've ever seen. We never get any sort of indication that he is even human; he's simply a bully, and I have yet to see him depart from that caricature. I would like to see a little bit of understanding between him and Harry Potter, so we can at least level with the guy. He isn't evil, he's just a prick. But as it is he's completely unbelievable as a character.

Anyway, the movie was good, besides some confusion for the first ten minutes (I thought it was a really long dream sequence). Three stars.

it was pretty good, however I'd hardly think there were ANY spoilers since most people have read the books....... :)

but I'm just making an assumption

Best movie so far? I dunno. Great movie- YES! I am still getting over the tweaking of the plot (especially the Cho/Harry plotline... abscence of Hermione/Ron as prefects... very little Ginny as "hot stuff" with all the guys). I will say that actor who plays Snape is simply AMAZING. Also, I'm not quite sure Prof Umbridge was exactly how I pictured her after reading the book. But I think the actress did an amazing job of making her super cruel.

Did you read Half-Blood Prince (#6)? I think that's where (Draco) Malfoy's character really comes along. We get to see how impressionable he is and how torn he becomes when he lives his life for someone else (ie the Dark Lord).

We've had some very long discussions about Harry Potter and this "occult stuff" before... if you'd like to contribute to those conversations, I suggest doing some searches.

I thought it went WAY too fast and it was really hard for my friends who hadn't read the books or seen any of the other movies to understand.

When you read a story you accept the worldview schemata set done by the author.
Hamlet has witchcraft, LOTR has wizards, would you avoid them as well? Harry Potter is entertaining fantasy where the good guys win.

Yeah you definitely need backstory. Most people however, have read the books or watched the other movies at some point.

Is there actually a "chosen one"? I mean, Harry is simply b/c Voldemort chose him to be the chosen one. However, I do think that Neville will learn that the prophecy could have been about him and that he will, in fact, die in #7. (But I hope he and Luna Lovegood snog first!)

It did go fast.... from the people I know who've just seen the movies, they followed it fine. They only got confused when those of us who've read the books (and mostly memorized them) started talking! But if you hadn't seen any of the movies prior to this, I think it might be an entertaining watch, but mostly a waste of time/money.

I dunno. I thought he showed some serious humanity at the end of HBP. Indeed, the two questions I have for Deathly Hallows are: what's up with Snape, and will Malfoy turn to the "Light Side?"

I was really disappointed with this one. They left far too much out. I really wish they would make full-length versions of these movies after they've released the theatrical versions. I am sure they would sell, because I know that almost everyone at the theater I was at was disappointed at how much of the story was left out, and I'm sure we are not the only ones.
