cappie
A young boy called Tom was in hospital dying from cancer and he told the following story.......... He was in a beautiful garden and saw a man seated on a bench. The man's fingers were like roses and he walked with him in the garden and talked to him. The man touched him and Tom reported that he moved in his bed for the first time in months. He did not want to leave the garden or the man's presence but the man went ahead and told Tom that he could not come with him yet. I asked him if he knew who the man was. He said, "I know it was Jesus." Thinking of the images he described, I thought for sure that he must be recreating the old gospel hymn, In the Garden. Tom was confused by my question because he had never even heard of the hymn. When I sang it for him, he did not recognize the melody but was excited because he recognized in the words the parallel image to his vision. Two days later, he told his parents that he would not live through the night and died peacefully in his sleep. Here is the song..... I come to the garden alone While the dew is still on the roses And the voice I hear falling on my ear The Son of God discloses. Refrain And He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own; And the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever known. He speaks, and the sound of His voice, Is so sweet the birds hush their singing, And the melody that He gave to me Within my heart is ringing. Refrain I’d stay in the garden with Him Though the night around me be falling, But He bids me go; through the voice of woe His voice to me is calling. FutureSister2009
I don't have one solid favorite hymn. I like traditional as well as modern updated stuff. I'm a Church Choir Geek so I am biassed. I love Holy God We Praise Thy Name and O God Beyond All Praising. I think they may be my top two.
MargaretTeresa
The Sanctus. Not sure if it's technically a hymn, but I love it. And the Salve Regina.

Debra Little
BE THOU MY VISION-- Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Nought be all else to me save that Thou art- Thou my best thought by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee, and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my true Father, I thy true son. Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one. Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise; Thou my inheritance now and always. Thou and Thou only, first in my heart; High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art. High King of heaven, my victory won, May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all. Vincent Vega
Found a good one: [quotename="I Vow To Thee, My Country"]I vow to thee, my country—all earthly things above— Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. And there’s another country, I’ve heard of long ago— Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.
Edited June 22, 2011 by USAirwaysIHS
