New document re: "subsistit" expected

According to Kath.net, a new CDF document can be expected shortly.

According to well-informed circles in the Vatican, there will be a new document by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on a hot topic. It will deal with the self-conception of the Church and will supposedly be released July 10th.

This document will state the unique character of the Catholic Church and that Protestant churches are not churches in the narrow sense. The topic will be the sentence "Ecclesia subsistit in Ecclesia catholica" (The Church of Christ subsists in/is realized in the Catholic Church) from the Vatican II document Lumen gentium.

According to "progressives" that sentence should be interpreted in a non-exclusive manner. It has been a point of contention for some 45 years. If I remember "my Ratzinger" correctly, he's always spoken against such an interpretation.... So, in the spirit of Dominus Iesus (which ruffled quite a few "progressive" and "rad trad" feathers), this makes perfect sense. What Dominus Iesus did for Christology, this should do for Ecclesiology. Very thorough, our Pope :)

It will come, . If it'll be on the 10th, we'll see. The ensuing, how to put it politely....wailing and gnashing of teeth will of course be extraordinary, especially on the heels of the Motu proprio - the perfect double whammy.

There's independent confirmation, ie via a different source, of this by Il Giornale's Andrea Tornielli .

Thy Geekdom Come

Yeah, so now might not be the right time to tell my self-described "progressive" pastor that I'm what might be called "an ardent member of the neo-orthodoxy movement."

haha I bet this'll be the next document that has a million expected dates.

there's been "independent confirmation" on this motu proprio for years.

but this is cool; the entire Council's authenticity hinges upon this word in my eyes. If it is to be interpretted as the progressivists want it interpretted, then the Council taught heresy and infallibility itself is undone, the whole Church falls like a deck of cards and I'd jump ship. But if it is to be interpretted in continuity with tradition, as it should be because that's what it actually means, then the Council stands and the Church is sustained.

I read this on another site, but I'm going to consider stealing it anyway. Should I be so fortunate to one day have a son, I may well name him Benedict Joseph!!!!

Letter to the Chinese, MP, now this.

What more can you ask for?

How exactly do the progressives expect the teaching on "the Truth subsists in the Catholic Church" to be interpreted?
