List Of Religious Orders

Moneybags

Recommended Posts

Can I please ask the help of Phatmass members? I am still in the process of updating Holy Vocations Blog and adding new writers. I now want to make one more edit of the list of religious order before I join the seminary. While in the seminary, I can not work on blogs.

Please look at the orders listed in the sidebar under "Vocation Links: Women" and "Vocation Links: Men". If you have any suggestions on other orders to add, please reply below. :priest: Thanks

Could you tell me some more about the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration. Do they all wear habits? Any Latin Mass or prayers in Latin? :lol_roll:

Also, what is the official name of the Carmelites in Terre Haute. I'll be adding them to the sidebar too!

Hey, St. Benedict, here are some great Discalced Carmelite Nuns communities in the US: http://picasaweb.google.com/ocdnuns (when looking through the pictures, pay attention to little comments on the bottom with more information)

The OCD Carmels in the US that pray the Office in Latin are Valparaiso (Carmelite rite Office), Buffalo, Alexandria & Brooklyn (revised Roman Rite, with Gregorian chant & Traditional hymns) The only Carmel in union with Rome that has the Tridentine Mass is the Carmel of JMJ in Valparaiso, NE. Then several of the other Carmels incorporate Latin in their liturgies. (links and more info in the link above)

Then there are the the Byzantine Discalced Carmelites in PA: http://www.byzantinediscalcedcarmelites.com/

The official name for the Carmel in Terre Haute, IN would be Discalced Carmelite Nuns, Carmel of St. Joseph in Terre Haute, IN. They are all in full habit.

Also, here's a thread on the two different OCD nuns Constitutions, though several of the ones under the newer Constitutions are just as traditional as the older ones. But it may be something you'll want to include in your blog.

Also, in the section above Vocations for Women, you may want to have a link not only to the OCarm Carmelite Order but also the Discalced Carmelite Order - http://www.ocd.pcn.net/index_en.htm

I never learned so much about the Discalced Carmelites before. Honestly, I thought there were part of the Carmelite Order. I did some editing of my sidebar. Could you please look over the Carmelite links? I want to make sure I labeled the Discalced ones and the non-discalced ones properly. After some researching, I found out that some of the Carmelites I had listed were actually discalced. ;)

I already had them listed (http://www.salesians.org/). Are they traditional Catholics? I checked your website and I saw none of them wearing cassocks.

They are Roman Catholics, very loyal to the Holy Father. :annoyed: Salesians are all for reverence in the Mass and devotion to Our Lady.

Salesian Sisters of St John Bosco

Yes, they wear habits, and are also faithful to the pope and the Magisterium.

We are so cool, we dont need cassocks. We need the movement so we can play with the children! We like the modern stuff, its what the kids like, and we need to keep up with the times, besides it is no longer a norm in the US to wear cassocks, our constiutions tell us to wear the norm for our region.

Could you please explain what you mean by "We like the modern stuff"? Does that include Extraordinary ministers, Communion in the Hand, lack of Latin, etc? Please explain...

The Carmelites listed from Malaysia are Discalced Carmelites. The Carmel of the Sacred Hearts in Colorado Springs is not in union with the Church. They follow the OCD spirituality but are not officially part of the OCD Order. They follow neither of the approved 1990 or 1991 Constitutions.

You may want to have a whole separate page on each of the orders for listing all the communities (otherwise that list is going to get really long :j )

On the top section you may want to keep all the names the same, as either "Carmelites" - "Discalced Carmelites" or "Carmelite Order" "Discalced Carmelite Order"

I'm glad to share with you this info! Also something I recently learned is the OCarm and OCD Carmelite shields are the same except the OCD shield merges Mount Carmel with the Cross, while the OCarm shield is just Mount Carmel.

Not a problem.

Extraordinary minsters only when absolutely necessary and there are not enough priests and deacons (i.e. at a large youth rally)... communion in the hand is up to the local ordinary and we are obedient to him... do you recall that JPII encouraged the study of Latin in seminaries while at the Salesian University? We tend to listen to what the pope says (I mean, it is part of the Salesian charism...) but that does not mean that we are reverting to the Latin Mass.

It is not a "lack" of Latin for us that is the concern, the proper use of it in our charism of youth ministry
