I just remembered seeing "Completely Christ's." Religious were interviewed and the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience were discussed magnifecently!

Just thought I'd post this morning the lyrics to the beautiful theme song of this movie, Thérèse’s Canticle of Love. It was actually made a few years before the production of this film for the occasion of the visiting of the relics of St. Therese to the United States. It is based off of some of her writings/poetry.

I agree with a few others, that this wasn't the best film on St. Therese, but it was alright, especially working with a low budget. I certainly couldn't make a film like that myself!

In the lyrics here there are 2 parts sometimes, so I separated the backgroud part with italics.

by
Sr. Marie Thérèse Sokol, OCD
& Sr. Michael Marie, OCD

How great and tender is our God,
who has smiled on the lowly.
Eternally my heart will sing,
a new canticle of love.

Come all who hunger, all who thirst,
all who long for fulfillment.
The God of mercy waits for you,
as a mother her child.

Oh come, to the living water,
fear not your weakness,
forever trusting in God’s merciful love.

Through the shadows of this night, Through this night,
Love will be my guiding light. Love guiding, only for today
Presence hidden from my sight, Presence hidden, only for today
‘til the clouds are put to flight. Just for today

Beneath your gaze I’ve blossomed forth,
as a rose in the sunshine.
With joyful heart I’ve given all,
to the mystery of love.

In peace, I will come before you,
with empty hands,
relying solely on Your merciful love.

Through the veil your face appears, Your face appears,
beauty shrouded, bathed in tears. Though shrouded, only for today
Bread of sinners I will share, Bread I share, only for today
rose unpetalled everywhere. Just for today

Ah, –– my God, Ah, ––
I will sing of Your love,
For this one eternal day.
For this one eternal today, For this one eternal today,
Eternal today. Eternal today.

Transformed in Love’s consuming fire, Transformed in Love’s fire,
lifted up in glory, lifted in glory,
her fragrance filling all the earth, her fragrance filling all the earth,

Until, in eternity we join in one chorus, Until, in eternity we join in one chorus,
forever singing of God’s merciful love. forever singing of God’s merciful love.

Canticle of love,
Here are my recommendations:

The Cardinal (1963)-- the true story of the First American Cardinal, Stephen Fermoyle.

Becket (1964) -- the true story of Sir Thomas Becket, friend to King Henry II, Archbishop of Canterbury, and martyr.
The Cardinal isn't a true story. It's sort of based on the life of the first American cardinal, Cardinal O'Connell of Boston.
It's a good movie but the book is better.
WAAAY back in the 70's and 80's the Cardinal used to be shown regularly on TV but for some reason it's not that known anymore. Is it out on video or DVD?

If they still show it on TV, well, I wouldn't know! :-)

Never before has a documentary been produced that so beautifully captures the humble, yet heroic life of a saintly woman. You'll want to watch this video over and over again. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll be uplifted and inspired.

I really liked this movie, Mother Teresa, starring Olivia Hussey.

http://www.excerptsofinri.com/mother-teresa.html

Also of course, Franco Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth (1977) starring her as Mary. I love this film! I grew up with it. We would often watch the parts on the Nativity and the Passion, at Christmas & Easter.
