scardella
Ahh, memories... I'll be visiting for alumni weekend. Favs: orthodoxy, charismaticism, FoPs, KHQ, Homeless Ministry, anyone from Louisiana, hanging out with smokers (though I'm not one myself), swing dancing, Austria (1001 ways to eat semmels!), the community showers I had freshman year (no longer there), Kolbe-Clare, TORs, quotes by GK Chesterton... perhaps a bazillion other things Dislikes: some of the anality, Prods, PoP, some of the household-induced cliquiness, households that go away , non-university computers anality (don't know if that's still an issue), cost of tuition Final word: one of the best decisions of my life... and I'm still paying for it. Apotheoun
And townies (we live down the road from some crackhouses)
I will never forget that when I first moved in to the Trinity East dorm I was told to always turn left when exiting the dorm parking lot, and to never go straight or turn right. When I asked why I should only go to the left, the person said, "Well you could get shot if you go straight or to the right." Needless to say, I always turned left onto the street when exiting the parking lot.

I'd like to visit my sister, brother and sister-in-law in Maryland too on the same trip. (Maybe even stopping in Houston too even though that's completely the other way.) I'd like to get to know some of my new household brothers. (And I know a couple of them are still around from when I was there...)

Laudate_Dominum
Ah, the smell. When I first came to Steubenville it was literally unbearable. When the smell would strike I could not be outside without gagging. I think it seems to lessen after a while because you get used to it. When I was new I would complain of the smell and people who lived here would say, "I don't smell anything". On occasion someone new to town will make a comment about the smell and I am now forced to admit that I don't smell anything most of the time. Although, when I'm up late at night (like three or four in the morning) the smell appears with a vengeance and there is no way one could not smell it or gag over it. As far as the water, it's hard to say how bad it is. I know that once a year I get a letter from the city which states that federal legislation requires this letter be sent to residents to inform you that the water does not meet EPA standards, blah, blah, blah. It goes on to give levels of heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, etc. It's freaky enough to keep me from drinking the stuff (although I did for years). I have known women who experienced miscarriages until they stopped drinking the water. This could be a coincidence, but I tend to doubt it. Laudate_Dominum
Oh, and I once met a fellow who while in medical school actually did a research project/paper on Steubenville water! His views on the matter seemed very extreme, but it is hard to doubt that there was some truth to his position (maybe he was right on). In essence he considered the stuff to be undrinkable and the fact of its existence to be criminal. Yay! He was also no friend of the Steubenville air. He once gave a litany of health problems that the air can cause. Against this fellow I would only say that he went to live on the fringes of society in order to escape pollutants so there is some evidence that he had an unhealthy preoccupation with such things. Or maybe he was just a wise fellow?

chelsea
What households were/are you all in? What did/do you like about your household
Apotheoun
I was not involved with any households: (1) because I was nearly twenty years older than the majority of undergrads who were in the households, and (2) as a Byzantine Catholic I have a different spiritual, liturgical, and theological tradition than the majority of students at the school. That said, the households are an excellent way for a younger student to become acclimated to the environment at FUS.
