Pio Nono
JMJ 7/1 - Thirteenth Sunday Here's the Pater Noster and the Ave Maria in Sicilian...this is also nice, but a little guttural for me...
Patri nostru, ca siti ntrô celu, santificatu fussi lu Vostru nomu. Viatu vinissi lu Vostru regnu. Fatta fussi la Vostra Vuluntati comu ntrô celu accussì ntra terra. Dàtini sta jurnata lu nostru panuzzu, e pirdunàtini li nostri piccati accussì comu nuiàtri li pirdunemu ê nostri nìmici. E nun lassàtini cascari ntrâ tintazzioni, ma scanzàtini dû mali. Amen.

Ave Maria, cchina di grazia, 'u Signuri è ccu tia. Tu si benedeta fra li mugghièri e benedeto è 'u frutu d'u to ventri, Gesù. Santa Maria, Matri di Diu, prega ppi niàutri ppiccaturi , ora e 'nta l'ura d'a nostra morti. Amen.
If anyone could find the Minor Doxology(Glory be), Apostles' Creed, and Hail, Holy Queen in Sicilian, I'd like to try my Rosary a few times in that language. :
Maria
i'm guessing Thomas Aquinas College?
Yup. My brother just graduated from there, and my parents, one of my little sisters and I went down. It's a lovely place, and now I think I might want to go.
Hmm I've never noticed that it messes up the rhythm. *says Hail Mary to herself in French* Nope I don't think it does.
I know what you mean. But I have memories of stumbling over the words around there, and I think it was because of the rhythm.
I'm learning how to chant in Latin. Eh? Eh? I can probably say the Hail Mary in Latin, and I'm learning how to say the Lord's Prayer. Oh! I can say them both in Spanish. Eh? : -Mark
I've taught myself the O Salutaris (which included using Words so that I could understand it and remember the lyrics), and I've got most of Adoramus Te memorized. We chant the Pater Noster with some regularity at diocesan events. Cardinal Turcotte used to tell us to pray it in our own language, but then he'd start praying it in French and everyone would follow along (so it wouldn't be a mess of noise or so that you don't have to concentrate so hard, trying to go against the flow). Now we generally chant it in Latin. It works a lot better. I can say the Ave, but I'm pretty sure I get some endings wrong. Sometimes when I pray the rosary I rotate languages: English, French, Latin.

melporcristo
For myself, I like to go to Mass in Latin and chant in Latin and all, but when it comes to me praying by myself, it really depends--sometimes I like to say the Ave in Latin, but most of the time I'll say memorized prayers in English because I usually don't have them memorized in Latin. I also sometimes like to say the prayers slowly and sort of "savor" each word, and it's harder for me to do that in Latin because, as much as I love it, I don't speak it fluently nor understand each word. English is the language I think in, even though Korean is my first language, so English is usually the language I pray in. But one of my favorite things that I did with the Carmelites on a come and see a year or two ago was pray the rosary together in Latin.
oh I love your responses because they are exactly how you would speak! Is it true one gets a plenary indulgence when they pray the rosary in a different language then their own? An amazing priest, Fr. Jorge, from Columbia, said some of the Mass parts in Latin. Sadly, he was sent away to another parish. Could the diocese kick a priest out just because of this?

Pio Nono
JMJ 7/2 - Thirteenth Monday I'll just keep bringing this up until someone does it. It's my "Carthago delenda est". I often experience resentment at being a native English speaker (I call it the bastard tongue) as it is a constant reminder of the rape and suppression of my ancestral culture and people at the hands of certain English speaking tyrants. Then there is the objective brutishness of the language. It just smells illegitimate. There was a time when I was considering forever renouncing English, but of course this would not work in my situation for obvious practical reasons. gamesfanatic04
Cicero put it at the end of every speech, even if it was super off topic no matter what. Because he was cool like that.
