Laudate_Dominum
Neat, I just listened to that "We have come to share our story. We have come to break the bread..." song in Spanish. It sounds slightly better en espanol actually if that's possible. Well, I guess most things sound better in Espanol. haha
IcePrincessKRS
My father in law would have a FIELD DAY on this topic! You should hear him rail when they have a "Marty Haugen Mass."
Laudate_Dominum
I must have an imaginary conversation with the lyricist. Let us build a house where love is found Sounds good. in water, wine and wheat Wait, what happened to the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ? a banquet hall on holy ground Banquet hall? Buffet style perhaps? where peace and justice meet Yay!! Here the love of God through Jesus Jesus is the definitive expression and substantial embodiment of God's love poured out for humanity. We might encounter God's love through someone like Mother Teresa but with Christ we encounter the love of God directly in Him. But maybe we're talking about Jesus the symbol of God? (yay phatty!) is revealed in time and space, Granted. as we share in Christ the feast that frees us. Do you mean The Holy Sacrifice of Calvary made present in every Mass? That One, All-Holy Sacrifice through which shall come the Parousia and by which the elect will be raised in Him and deified, to dwell in eternal glory ever rapt in the Presence of the Living God? All are welcome Even satanists? j/k. But seriously, you seem to imply that "all" are welcome to share the "feast" of "water, wine and wheat" which goes against Church teaching since one must be a practicing Catholic in good standing and in a state of grace to receive the Holy Eucharist. All are welcome You already said that All are welcome in this place We get it.. What place is that again?

Don't jump the gun... The church? Nothing is particularly evil or wrong about these lyrics. I'd like to see someone put together a song using the words YOU used. That'd be ridiculous...
I wasn't attempting to write a song, I was just pretending to "dialogue" with the lyricist. It was a jokey. There are countless real Catholic hymns which express profound theological truths with correct language and in beautiful poetry. The Haugen-Hass tunes are usually written to be acceptable to Lutherans and other Protestant denominations as well as women priests and practicing homosexuals. And that song is hardly an acceptable description of the Church. Maybe the "FutureChurch", but not the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. For one thing the song describes something that does not yet exist--something we must build. To call many of these songs Catholic hymns is a disgrace. I don't know about you, but I don't go to Mass to share a story and drink wine from the blessing cup while giving three cheers to the lord of the dance. But I think the problem most people have with the so-called "Haugen Tradition" of worship music is that the songs are often incredibly sappy.
