Spiritual_Arsonist
is bingo a bit hit with protestants as it is with catholics? I was thinking the same thing. What is the church without bingo!?!?!
Laudate_Dominum
WE financed our catholic school with bingo games. Yes, the parish here that has bingo justifies it with that reason. I know a parish that once had bingo and a bunch of the parishoners got together and told the pastor that they would tithe if he got rid of bingo, the parish has been radically blessed and is flourishing ever since the pastor made that move. God will bless parishes that abandon bingo, I know it. I know of another parish that abandoned bingo and started having a dinner open to the public once a week, they actually make more money now then they did with bingo. There are always other options. I would voice my honest opinion concerning bingo but I'm afraid it's quite harsh. May it suffice to say that it's not much of a witness and it's actually pretty embarassing. May Jesus Christ cleanse His temples everywhere of this disgraceful practice.

homeschoolmom
My kids are really bummed that there's no AWANA at our new church (by the way, Cmom, AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed which is verse from 2 Timothy-- I think) My son was juuuust about to start Sparks (no crowns for him) and my daughter was about to join Adventure Club (three crowns for her). Oh, well. It is a very good thing, but the verses that they tend to memorize do lend themselve to Protestant doctrine (if that makes sense) and they are big on memorizing the books of the Bible (66 rather than 73). HSDad was in Bible Quizzing was really good at it. He still has Matthew, 1 and 2 Corrintians memorized... and Pedro, I can totally envision you in a sweet lil red vest-- evangelical formalwear at it's finest... Paladin D
You realize if the Body of Christ is ever fully reunited again, Catholics are going to have to change. While Mass may remain the same, your going to have to have pot-luck dinners, ice-cream socials, your going to have to stay an hour and a half after church to socialize with your fellow church-goers at least once a month, you'll have to have mens baseball leagues, youth groups that meet on wednesday nights to pray, read scriptures, and go on trips, AWANA, Bible Quizing, and so much more.
After every mass at my parish, we have coffee and snacks for about 30 mins.
MichaelFilo
I'd just like to note one thing Sean, their unity and their fun things to do at parish, while seeming good for growth as a family, make it seem as if our lives are to revolve around the Christian family we belong to. Instead the Catholic Church provides such great things as feeding the poor, helping the homeless, working with Cancer patients, and prayer. These things are a more admirable use of time then baseball, and eatiing food and talking. God bless, Mikey
ICTHUS
What I like about Roman Catholicism, 1. Your liturgy (I could never do without Liturgical worship, which is why I'm restricting myself to a Lutheran or Anglican church, pretty much) 2. Weekly (actually, daily) Communion (I couldn't do without weekly communion, either, which is also why I couldn't be a Presbyterian or a Baptist. It's like having sex with your wife only once every three months. It just doesn't make sense.) 3. Your iconography (that is, when you aren't worshipping your icons) 4. The fact that you baptise a lot of babies. 4.5 Your great sense of social justice 4.75 Your great pro-life stance puts many Protestants to shame. 5. The fact that you've produced such great theologians as St. Augustine (whose teaching, unfortunately, you've abandoned ) Edited August 29, 2004 by ICTHUS

I'm pleased to say that I like protestants for their anti-Catholicism, which they flaunt like a person would a wedding ring. No one else can be so open about their views! ICTHUS
Well, I was watching a thing on the news today wherein a Russian Orthodox seminarian basically said "I like to worship such and such an icon". So my comments weren't really off the mark since Roman Catholicism an Eastern "Orthodoxy" aren't far off. As for abandoning St. Augustine's teachings, I was stating a fact, not trying to be cruel.
