Your talking to the Junior High Bible Quiz Champ! My elementary/junior high was sponsored by the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and I won the Bible Quiz contest and the Scripture memorization contest out of the 5th-8th grade. I had to memorize all the books of the Bible and Isaiah 53 (the one with the sequence forshaddowing the comming of the Messiah and the perfect sacrifice). Anyway it was fun and thanks for bringing back the memories!

I've had a few friends involved in Quizzing, and one of them is now trying to get it going in some of the Catholic churches around here. I was never involve, but it seems really cool.

By the way, this thread is amesome.

AWANA sounds cool!! I have a game on my computer that is a bible quiz game and I downloaded in off of a Catholic website so maybe that type of thing is catching on. Hey! I just thought of something, we should have a bible quiz game on PM!! We could have championships and stuff. That would be so cool. I don't know how it would work though, it might be difficult to write.

is bingo a bit hit with protestants as it is with catholics?

I hope not, I can't stand bingo. I know of one parish around here that has bingo and I don't think the people that go to it are even catholic. It's just a fundraiser more than a parish activity. I think it's tacky as can be too.

No bingo I don't think, but our church does alsorts of other stuff. We have an annual outdoor party on the joint feast day of our church (St John Fisher) and another local one (St Thomas More). We have soccer, tombola, bouncy castle etc. etc. a great family day and it raises loads for the church coffers!

Bible Quizing is an official organization for Jr. High/ HS students where students take part in intense Bible study and memorization and compete in tournaments between churches and at regional matches.

My wife is an official. She also teaches AWANA.

Bible Quizzing rocks! I was on my High School's team all 4 years. We kicked serious tail. We got first place every year, not to mention I also took place in OT Knowledge testing, NT knowledge testing, and Bible preaching. I got to go to National Competition so much it wasn't funny.

:P

A man was walking across a city street when he was struck by a car. A large crowd gathered around, and a police officer bent over the dying man when he saw the man was trying to say something. "Get...me...a priest" gasped the man. The police officer stood up, "Is there a priest around here?" he hollered. An elderly man pushed his way to the front of the crowd. "I'm not a priest," he said to the officer, "but I lived beside a Catholic church for 25 years, and I heard many of their chants and sayings, maybe I can be of some comfort to this poor man." The officer nodded his head, and the elderly man bent over and listened as the man whispered something in his ear. The old man then quietly and solemnly replied, "G-38, B-26..."

Man ... AWANA, that brings back memories. I attended with my Baptist Cousins. :) It was pretty darn cool.

Our Parish has a summer festival (huge carnival), dinners, youth groups ... but we are a pretty small parish, so I think its easier to know people. I think that is a big difference in Protestant and Catholic Churchs, at least in my area. The Protestant churchs are smaller and may have one Sunday Service. The Church I was married in had 5 Masses on Sunday. That's a LOT of people.
