cmotherofpirl
Catholic Charities, unfortunately, is run on a local basis, and can be subject to stupidity, just like all other social organizations. It depends of the faithfulness of its members to uphold the teachings of the Church.
philosophette
Salesians are great to support. They do a lot of good and are faithful to the Church. They also have a strong missionary streak and work on educating the young and poor in other countries as well as our own.
philosophette
double post. I also like to support the Laboure Society, which helps people entering religious life to pay off their student loans. Veritas
My bad, sorry Veritas. But please explain why you don't give to Catholic Charities. Here in St. Louis, they have the support of no less a person than our archbishop Raymond Burke.
+ Apology accepted. Thank you. My thought was only that they are "unreliable". By that, I mean that it varies so much from place to place (look at San Francisco), one has to careful about where and what there money is going towards. Another concern I have with CC, at least locally, is that it seems to be solely a social service agency -the Pope warns against this. There is no evangelical spirit. While people definitely need, and we as Catholics have an obligation to provide, the corporal works of mercy, what people need most, is Christ. They need the knowledge of the forgiveness of their sins and an ultimate comforter. CC, here, is very shy to provide such comfort and that concerns me. We are doing a great disservice to those suffering when we fail to provide Christ.
