Can you give some more detail as to why you say yes? What's your justification?

I'm not trying to be difficult it's just that we're getting conflicting opinions from orthodox priests, theologians, canon lawyers, etc....

Heh heh, thanks for moving it. I found my own answer, it's no, they can't be a godparent, but can be a sponsor. The role is very similar, but the title is different.

I'll have to dig up the link to where I found the answer....
