MissScripture
From the Catechism: The angels in the life of the Church 334 In the meantime, the whole life of the Church benefits from the mysterious and powerful help of angels.201 335 In her liturgy, the Church joins with the angels to adore the thrice-holy God. She invokes their assistance (in the funeral liturgy's In Paradisum deducant te angeli. . .["May the angels lead you into Paradise. . ."]). Moreover, in the "Cherubic Hymn" of the Byzantine Liturgy, she celebrates the memory of certain angels more particularly (St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, and the guardian angels). 336 From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession.202 "Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life."203 Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God. It also brings to mind the image of one who is very mighty and strong... but that might be the whole Conan the Barbarian thing, I dunno. In any event, I like it. My aunt named her angel Delores. Or was it Dorthy? Delores I think. A part of me thinks its wiser to name your angel rather than ask its name... I'm not sure why, maybe I read it somewhere? I think it had to do something with "just in case the one who answers you isn't really your angel" but I could definitely be mistaken on that, I don't really KNOW its just a vague thought or memory. (If someone has a source to the contrary I would be happy to see it, put my fears to rest, so to speak.)

You'll have to deal with your angel for eternity if you give it a lame name.

Totus Tuus
JMJ+ We are discouraged from asking our guardian angel his name. It is o.k. to name your guardian angel yourself, but asking for him to reveal his name doesn't jive with what we know about angels. First of all, they very seldom reveal themselves in Scripture, and when they do, they reveal very little about themselves (just the minimum, to get the task God gave them accomplished). Secondly, if you are inspired by an "angel" with a name, you can have no guarantee that you are being inspired by your guardian angel. It could very well be a fallen angel. So, it's o.k. to name your angel, but it's not very kosher to be asking him to reveal his name to you (I say "he" as a default... they are pure spirits). Opus Angelorum provides good resources on this topic. God bless! Lauren

Proud2BCatholic139
I think it is ok to ask the name of your angel. I mean, our angel is our friend, our best friend. I don't see any reason in why we can't ask or even pray about it. Besides, we should constantly talk with our angel.
