homeschoolmom
Well, the HSkids are off horseback riding with our co-op. I am not there, of course, because I am deathly allergic to horses. So, I'm sitting here worried. For one thing, it's a long drive and for another Christopher Reeves keeps coming to mind. My kids have never been horseback riding other than walking in circles on a pony at the zoo. They are both excited.... but my word, you should have seen the release I had to sign-- "Our teachers are not infallible and may give incomplete instructions..." So, I'm biding my time until they come home safe and sound around 4 pm.
homeschoolmom
What? No one is going to say, "Oh HSmom, you worry too much. Of course they will be okay. You sure are a great mom for letting them go anyway...."?

I did the horseback riding thing at 11 with no scars to show for it.
Archaeology cat
If it makes you feel any better, I have never been injured whilst riding. I really love the word "whilst". Anyway, I've ridden since I was 6 or 7 or something like that; my aunt taught me to ride English. Trail horses are very good, and very well trained. So don't worry, they'll be fine. homeschoolmom
I know... which is why I let them go. It's just weird not being there when I usually am.

cathoholic_anonymous
Horses are amazing. Twice-weekly riding lessons was the best therapy for my disabilities that I ever received, including all the work they did with me at the hospital. Some people actually carry a doctor's prescription stating that they have to be on a horse for so many hours each week. Even for 'normal' people, riding has a lot of health benefits. Soon the HSchildren will be able to crack Brazil nuts and the like by squeezing them between their kneecaps.

Do you they give scholarship money for that skill?
