farglefeezlebut
Ok, three friends in need of special attention: Person A is a physics student whom I have been e-friends with for several years but only met once. He is a very unhappy person with a history of mental health problems. I once suggested he see a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and he took it as a personal insult. L But I digress. He is very fond of Dawkins. He spends a lot of times on sites like this. [mod]Link removed because of URL name. --Era Might[/mod] We had a disconcerting conversation about the Old Testament. He exposed my ignorance and inconsistencies in my understanding. He didn’t rock my faith, but he made it tremble. My friendship with him has motivated me to understand my faith better, for which I am grateful. But I have not given him the best view of Christianity. I once told him life would have no meaning without God (which it wouldn’t, although that is not proof of anything.) I think this enforced his view that there are two kinds of Christians: fundamentalist loonies and nice harmless ones who convince themselves they believe in something in which they do not because they need comfort. (I think there were points in my life when I definitely fitted into category 2, but not now.) He wants to believe. I know he wants to believe. Please pray and advise. There are two others, but there is no time now.
cathoholic_anonymous
Hmm. I have some plans, but I need to go to bed now. I will discuss them with you the next time I phone, which won't be until after all my exams are over. In the meantime I will pray for him. There is a substantial CTS booklet on understanding the Scriptures which I think that you should look at viz. the Old Testament.
