jmj
That's really ... creepy. I like my cycle (even if it's not exactly comfortable at times )! What are things coming to when normal things become "problems" and need to be "fixed"?
farglefeezlebut
There are a few extremely rare medical situations where this drug would be necessary. Women with certain types of porphyria are so sensitive to their own hormonal fluctuations that they become ill every time they get a period. The use of this drug on such women is medically sensible and morally justified. But for a healthy woman to use it is just weird. It would be like a person with perfectly healthy lungs using a ventilator to save hi/herself the bother of breathing normally. Unnatural and SILLY. track2004
I get sick when I start my period to the point of just telling people I hate being a girl. I get the hormonal flux and the beauty of being a girl, but not when I'm puking. It's also annoying and kinda gross. If this pill worked and wasn't dangerous I would use it, but that's just me. I don't like chocolate, not even at that time of the month, so it's not like I'm losing the perks...

I can't imagine that, if you are married or open to marriage, you could possibly want to take away your baby-making ability. I mean, I know that periods can be really aggravating (I don't have it that bad, thank goodness), but it's still hard to imagine taking that part of me away... forever. I mean, I don't know if I could completely feel like a girl anymore. (not counting menopause, of course. that's normal.) Imagine if Mary had gotten tired of her period and used something like that... not that she would have, considering she was engaged and immaculately conceived. but you see what I'm saying. she wasn't expecting to have Jesus... *sigh* It's kind of my dream to be a mother, so it's hard for me to understand how people could give that up so easily. religious life is the exception, of course. that, I do understand. She finally got it mostly under control through medication but it is still sometimes rough. I can totally understand wanting to be done with periods ... but I guess I'd also hate to give up the possibility of having children at some point. Totus Tuus
Oh my. I can't believe anyone could justify or condone doing that. Sadly, it doesn't surprise me. However it is baffling that you could treat a woman's cycle like a problem. It's par for the course, though, with our contraceptive and abortive mentalities: if pregnancy is treated as a problem, then it is a natural follow-up that the physical disposition which allows pregnancy would be a problem as well. How sad...
hoosieranna
I don't like my period. I don't enjoy the cramps or moodiness that accompany it. That said, I see menstruation as a purge. It releases all of the extra "stuff" that has built up in the last month. Bleeding is part of being female. It's supposed to happen. I don't like the thought of something that's supposed to happen not happening. Just my somewhat garbled two cents.
cathoholic_anonymous
I don't get cramps. I get a nasty dull ache, and the ache seems to be all over. I wish the cramping feeling would come, if only to get a few seconds' relief. But I still like my period. It is a part of life's pattern and it is not doing me any actual harm. I wouldn't want it to go away.

I'd like to echo all the other ladies. Periods smell of elderberries, but it is a beautiful part of being a woman. Its pretty amazing studying the biology behind menstruation. Society has made menstruation something to be ashamed of, and this pill is an extreme example of the shame of periods.

I hate cramping, I don't enjoy bleeding, I don't enjoy being cranky and crying for no reason and swelling up like a balloon (but the chocolate is a plus)... But it makes me a woman instead of a girl or, like some said, a boy. We all go through it. We all survive it. It's called life...*shrugs*

Sojourner
One thing that I've taken to doing during my periods (after I am done being cranky) is meditating on how being a woman makes me like Mary, who bore Christ. I once heard someone talk about periods as a reminder that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. So, I see the period as a reminder of the Incarnation, which brought about the possibility of salvation and forgiveness.
