Dave
I've noticed that nuns who wear habits are far more likely to be orthodox than those who don't. That doesn't mean all nuns who wear habits are orthodox, though, nor does it mean that all nuns who don't wear habits aren't. But having seen more nuns that don't wear habits than those who do, I just gotta ask -- have y'all known any nuns who didn't wear habits yet who were nevertheless 100% orthodox? Theoketos
There is an order of sisters who do not where habits and are really orthodox, they all have STD's (Sacred Theology Degrees) and their Charism is engaging madernism in dialogue. They og around the streets of NY and evagelize in many a coffee house. But I think that they are the exception...

thicke
HM.....somebody correct me if I am wrong. But aren't "nuns" cloistered sisters, similar to monks being bothers that do not live "in the world"? If so, I have never heard of a nun that does not wear a habit. The only sisters I have had any direct dealings with who don't wear habits are members of The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. I am not aware of any issues with their orthodoxy. However, I have only been around them during a dinner I hosted (as Grand Knight of my Knights of Columbus council) for the women religious here in my hometown. They did seem to me to be just as dedicated to spreading and living the Gospel as the other sisters who were at this dinner who wore habits (including a large number of Dominicans). BLAZEr
I know a few nuns who are 100% orthodox and don't wear habits. One of them wears a veil, which you would probably consider a habit, but really isn't. However, I don't know any nuns who wear habits and aren't orthodox. A couple may have had bad spiritual direction or formation, but I don't know any loopy ones who wear habits. Even the ones that did the liturgical dancing at the Mahoney Temple festival are really orthodox, they just do silly liturgical stuff.
M.SIGGA
You all need to hang out in some better Catholic circles. The Sisters of St. Joseph no longer wear habits and they are great - I've never met a bad one.

littleflower+JMJ
yeah i do know that its a turn-off when thinking of the religious order, that some don't wear them and that some religious orders arent' orthodox. i would never consider one that doesn't wear an habit. :shame: my great-aunt is a nun and shes always in her habit, and i think that is soo cool. i mean st. therese, st. bernandette, st. faustina, and many others all wore habits  if, and thats a BIG IF, lol, i were to become a nun, i would wear a habit and definitly choose a orthodox order of sisters who wear habits,etc.. i think its very important that we don't lose sight of that......... i think one of the COOLEST things at NCYC was when they showed a nun in the crowd on the BIG SCREEN in the astrodome of a nun getting down and dancing!! she was wearing a habit so we can all see that she was a nun, and we all cheered her on! and i was surprise to hear others (From other states) around me say that that was the first time they've seen a nun in a habit. and that was a shock for me (but then i do live under a rock ) and those are my thoughts +JMJ

Good Friday
Flowery, I think you would make a great Poor Clare. You've got some major prayer power. But of course, that's between you and God. My English teacher was a nun who doesn't wear a habit. I'm really not sure how orthodox she was (she was my English teacher), but I know that her example -- meaning her actions, not her words -- was one of the contributing factors that led me to Catholicism. The former superintendent of our school system in this diocese is a nun who doesn't wear a habit, and she seems very orthodox. But I know which nuns you're referring to. While one can't say that nuns who don't wear habits aren't orthodox, one can say that unorthodox nuns probably wouldn't favor the habit. However, there are probably very orthodox nuns who don't favor the habit for different reasons than the unorthodox nuns. All nuns are the brides of Christ, however. It's just that some of them are more like Gomer, and some of them are more like Mary. We should pray that the ones who are like Gomer will become more like Mary. ...if you think Gomer is a character from Andy Griffith, you desperately need to read the Book of Hosea. I don't know how anyone could like Delilah! I've always liked Bathsheba, though. I've never really seen her as the extremely guilty party in the whole thing. I'm sure they were both guilty, but it's alway stricken me as King David who was the more guilty of the two. As for Rahab, I love Rahab. But we can't forget Tamar. Ya gotta love Tamar. And Leah.
