Veritas
I was going to ask about Creighton as well--my mom seems to be interested in it, and I thought it would be worth it to look around their website--but I think I found an answer regarding "devoutness." I am shocked--they have a Gay-Straight Alliance, and a webpage for it, meetings every week apparently, and in their group 'purpose statement' they mention only that they are trying to get everyone to accept rather than discriminate towards them. I have no problem with that in itself; NO one should be prejudiced towards ANYone, for any reason. But the group seems to think it is okay to advertise and act upon, if they are not straight, their sexual orientation as well. Perhaps someone that goes to Creighton here can explain some things to me; if I just happened to get entirely the wrong impression from the webpage/information/pictures. (I wasn't looking to start a discussion about Catholic colleges and their students' sexual orientations either... I'm just wondering/worried about Creighton a little...)
+ It's a tough place. Definitely, NOT known for orthodoxy or fidelity. Poor, silly, American Jesuits.

I would not even mention it if it were not for people on this thread looking for a good Catholic college. I say it only because it needs to be said before someone actually gets the idea that it is Catholic and has the horrible and disappointing experience of finding out it is not, in fact, Catholic. Acadmically... "supposedly" it is a fine school.

In fact, there are some good departments, e.g. philosophy. One can also get a good theology education, but one must pick carefully! If one is able to enter Notre Dame, there is definite potential. A turn around is in progress. Furthermore, we can't just let our Catholic colleges go to the crazy woodstock "Catholics"!

JoeyP
You know what some of you should do who are looking into Catholic Colleges? You should send the ones that are do not have a good Catholic identity a letter. You should say things such as, I was looking into going to your school however I found it disturbing that you are a Catholic University and you are having the Vagina Monologues or gay rights groups, etc. at your college and I am no longer considering your college or university because it is not Orthodox and is not faithful to the Magisterium. I think that could make a difference and get some of these money hungry presidents to change if they know they are losing potential students cause of their lack of Catholic identity. Fr. Groeschel was asked why he thinks Catholic institutions have gone secular and he said greed and it is probably correct. Universities think no one will go there if they stand hard on the Catholic identity

Fordham?
Holy Cross in Boston is Jesuit and is really fishy. my sacraments teacher came from there and the way he taught sacraments their power came from us. of course with words he said "the power of the sacraments is from God" but then he'd go on to talk about how the gifts of the holy spirit in confirmation were basically just a reminder that we shoudlb e doing things and he never mentioned grace and help doing the right things, just our decisions. villanova and fordham i dont know anything about but if they are jesuit i would stay away. i have never heard of oustanding orthodoxy from either of them.
