Brigid
My high-school-freshman theology book explained it... it said something like "You can be both male and Italian. If you are male, you are not automatically not Italian, and if you are Italian, it does not make you automatically not male. In the same way, Jesus was both divine and human. One does not cancel out the other." now, that's not an exact quote, but it gives the main idea of what the book said (they phrased it a little better, though. my phrasing was slightly awkward.). I don't know if it's right, so please correct me if I'm wrong. the way they explained it was a little easier to understand (if it can be understood...?) than some of the ways I read here. imogen
i think it'd be nice also to point out (maybe this is just stating the obvious but..) Jesus was born by a woman.......(normal) but born of a virgin....(not so normal)
Theologian in Training
He is the Son and the Word of God from eternity, but he was not Jesus Christ until the Incarnation.
Yes, I know. BTW, I am just going to stop posting on this thread, because what I take as a given seems to constantly need clarification. Yet, it only makes sense, because, at heart, we are dealing with God Himself and, as thus, a great mystery.
