For A Friend In Real Need

Hello Pham,

I've mentioned my friend Rachel before on other boards. She's a fifteen-year-old girl who suffered repeated rape and sexual abuse during the early years of secondary school, before she took an overdose in November 2005 and was taken to hospital. She's been in psychiatric care ever since, struggling to overcome anorexia and severe self-harm. The anorexia is much better than it was. The self-injury is more of a problem. Please pray for her continued recovery. But above all, please pray for two crucial dates:

[b]21st May[/b] - Rachel is to be discharged from hospital after eighteen months as an in-patient. She is excited, relieved, and terrified all at the same time. She will be going to a new school in September so that she can have a fresh start.

[b]24th May[/b] - the Crown Prosecution Service is going to issue a decision on whether to charge Rachel's abuser. At the moment we have no idea what the decision will be. The police are afraid that it might hurt Rachel even more to go to court, as she made a second attempt on her life after the first major video interview. Her own feelings about this are mixed. So are mine.

One of Rachel's favourite prayers is the St Michael prayer, so I would like to invite the phamily to join me in a novena to St Michael, starting today (13th May 2007), for her protection as her life begins outside the hospital and for the CPS to make the right choice.
