I always loved this picture:

 Me too!!!
I think wearing a crown of thorns at profession is probably the most beautiful thing I have ever heard of!! Sounds like something Saint Clare would have done. :)

I just figured that this picture belonged here:

Sorry that I'm a little biased. :saint:

Passionists also wear a crown of thorns at profession:

The more I see the Passionists, the more I like their veil. It seems very practical and out of the way.

i took so many photos of people in religious clothes at WYD in Toronto '02... i hope they didn't mind... i didn't ask their permission to snap the photos most of the time (unless i was IN the photos standing by them)... i just captured candid moments... like when they held their godly signs of where they were from or their patron saint banners, or huddles of nuns, or a nun eating a bag of chips and talking to kids, or religious people mixed with non-religious people at adoration together or all dancing in a circle to the "alleluia" song... somehow this reply has no place to let me upload pics from my comp... well remember the vocation people at world youth days? it was cool talking to them or at least observing them. i bought and read a book about celibacy there. they seem to have such a peaceful life. their clothes do set them apart and make me think of virtues. they are appealing.

WYD Toronto wasn't the only time i photographed nuns. i also took photos with ones i visited later on. but on some visits i didn't take any photos so there's no evidence of my trip, only memories and spiritual lessons. sometimes taking pictures felt out of place, like too touristy. but i enjoy seeing updated albums on relgious life webistes now and then when i check

I LOVE the Community of St. John!

I had the opportunity to spend a week in their cloister when I was a Sister, because we were invited to a camping/canoe trip with the Brothers and a young adult group. It was so simple, so beautiful, so prayerful, and just absolutely 100% lovely. If I had had a vocation to contemplative life, I would have joined them in an instant!

This page has great OLD pictures of nuns! -- Check it out!

:woot:

Sometimes I can't help but wonder how nuns in some of those habits functioned just walking up and down stairs. Or sitting down properly. Or just putting on their habit in the morning. I think I'd be so confused with some of those veils.

Number 5 has almost the exact same habit that my community used to have.

I think it is just so beautiful when an order has the sisters wear like a wedding dress! Just lovely.

BTW, the lower two are with the FI sisters. The first did not say.

I just love the orders that do the wedding dress. Too bad none of the orders I'm interested in do it, but if I become a Dominican after all (God-willing), I'll have the white habit and that, to me, is just the most beautiful wedding dress EVER!

BTW--the top picture is of the Sister Adorers of the Royal Heart of Jesus based out of Rome, Italy. ;)

This thread becomes even more valuable when certain websites shut down. Then the photos in the previous posts can still be seen even though the websites they came from don't link any more. I am thinking of the US website for the Community of St John which does not show up when you enter the url. There are photos of American novices above.
Hopefully the webpage is being fixed, and the site's present absence does not reflect a problem in the congregation itself.
