Total chaos? :)

The brothers originated from a group of men who studied under a Dominican (woo!) friar. Because the Dominicans didn't accept new vocations in France, they formed their own community directed by Fr. Marie-Dominique Philippe. They want to be "a family of God's children", with Jesus and Mary. Their main apostolate is with the young, and they go everywhere they're sent to :) (Our bishop is heavily jealous, er, happy for the bishop of Rotterdam (our southern neighbour) because there are brothers AND contemplative sisters there.)

The brothers are all active, the sisters have an active and a contemplative branch. The contemplative sisters wear a white veil (with whimple!) because their founder said something along the lines of "one should always feel as a novice" (translating in my head from French to Dutch to English makes things go weird :) ). The active sisters wear veils in the colour of their habit (dark grey, in some areas lighter grey). The professed have whimples.

That's all I can say... probably mostly incorrect :). But as I understand there are a lot of St. John fans around here, they'll be able to help :)

You can't Miss them! They really stand out in that bright Blue!

What a Great Bunch of women! They have the main convent in Rockford and a few of them here in Freeport. Several Go to Highland community College where they are studying nursing. One of them won our family's yearly scholorship in Biology last year. It's not alot of money but I was thrilled that one of the sisters had won!

They are really a blessing to our community.
they're so beautiful! i feel so in love when i see nuns. if i see one that is extra pretty and doing something reverent, it feels like my heart is going to burst. almost to the point where i feel kind of "wrong" almost. maybe because it reminds me of Mary.
oh how i wish everyone were in habits or at least dresses and veils, instead of the torture i have to go through each day at school or at the gym.. funny, i once was told i should move to the middle east.

if you think that's bad, sometimes i have to stop by a catholic girls school with all these girls in short skirts looking like britney spears. it gets so bad that i have to keep my eyes glued to the ground or else i'll pass out.
You guys who hate trashy dressing should have t-shirts printed up that say: "LEAVE SOMETHING TO THE IMAGINATION!" Get out the message that a lot of guys like a more conservative and classy look.

"The Apostolic Sisters of Saint John strive to be both hidden in God with Christ, through Mary, and witnesses of God's love for mankind.

Their apostolate begins with the sign of their consecrated life, in prayer and in manual and intellectual work.
"To be consecrated to God, at the service of the Church, to lead a communal life in order to fully practice fraternal charity, to become ever more deeply rooted in the mystery of the Eucharist, the mystery of Mary, and the mystery of Peter in the person of the Holy Father and the bishops." (Constitutions, 25).
EJames, I hereby declare that I adore you :)
"Bring ye to the Lord, O ye kindreds of the Gentiles, bring ye to the Lord glory and honour:

bring to the Lord glory unto his name. Bring up sacrifices, and come into his courts:

adore ye the Lord in his holy court. Let all the earth be moved at his presence.

Say ye among the Gentiles, the Lord hath reigned. For he hath corrected the world, which shall not be moved: he will judge the people with justice.

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad, let the sea be moved, and the fulness thereof:

the fields and all things that are in them shall be joyful. Then shall all the trees of the woods rejoice

before the face of the Lord, because he cometh: because he cometh to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with justice, and the people with his truth. "
