littleflower+JMJ
I was wondering how the Blessed Sacrament is at your parish. Do you have a 24 hour chapel open for visitation? How do you incorporate it as a parish? Just curious because we're trying to work on a couple of things at our parish....
premed_jakey
We have a 24 hour adoration chapel that always has the sacrament on display, unless there is a Mass going on. To keep the safety of the chapel, it has a lock with a keypad lock so adorers can come it at any time.
Chiquitunga
First, as far as where is the Blessed Sacrament positioned in our church, It is in a tabernacle on the left side of the church .. We have a very modern interior .. But fortunately we have a small adoration chapel in the back with many beautiful icons, where there is adoration every Thursday afternoon, usually 1:30 - 10:30 pm, with the Divine Mercy chaplet at 3pm. Once in a while we start the adoration with a Holy Hour in the church and then the Blessed Sacrament is brought to the chapel. Then on Thursdays before First Friday, it goes throughout the night until 8:30am First Friday Mass. Edited May 6, 2007 by Margaret Clare
Piccoli Fiori JMJ
Well, I am at two parishes currently, the one at school has a 24/7 adoration chapel attached to the convent next to the church that is open during the day and you buzz in during the night. At my home parish, they have exposition and benediction on Monday nights.
Lounge Daddy
In the GR Diocese there is a 24/7 Adoration at the JP2 Perpetual Adoration Chapel. It's at St. Isador's Parish just outside down town GR, right off the high way for people coming from out of town. the door is locked, but those that visit know the combo - so that people burning the midnight oil w/ Jesus can feel secure. Guest T-Bone
At first I thought you were going to ask about taste/texture... To answer your question, we only have adoration on first Fridays. (The tabernacle is in the center, behind the altar in the day chapel.)
Maggyie
Our tabernacle is off to the side, hidden behind a stained glass wall-type thing However, we do have a weekly Holy Hour and Benediction, and until Pentecost we are having all-day Adoration on Thursdays! cappie
We have Adoration 1st Sunday of the Month after the 9am Mass until midday. We also have Adoration Tuesdays after the 7am Mass until 5pm and Friday after 7am Mass until the midday Mass. The Tabernacle is behind the altar but separated from the main sanctuary by a glass screen which gives the feeling when you are sitting in front of the Tabernacle of being in a small chapel. The Church is open for private prayer from 5am until 7.30pm seven days a week. You can get the idea by looking at the pics on the parish website http://www.guardianangels.org.au/church.html

That is not a very good set up. I don't understand some parishes these days. For example, in a parish I attended while at school, at the Cathedral they had the Adoration Chapel in another room in front of the alter with clear windows and that is where the tabernacle is placed. During Mass, the Eucharistic minister comes back to the Adoration Chapel and just leaves it open. I don't understand some things these days. Well, Adoration is 24 hours. It is a terrible set-up. Why can't churches these days be traditional? Why are they "community like"?
Dreamweaver
At our cathedral, we have perpetual adoration (except during mass of course). The tabernacle and monstrance are on a side altar, but there are remodelling plans to move everything to the center and moving the cathedra off to the side. At night, the doors are locked except for a keypad entry door.
Totus Tuus
We have perpetual adoration, but not all of the hours are taken (the parishioners don't really understand the importance of Adoration yet, I think, but maybe some day). The parish administrator puts Our Lord in the tabernacle if someone can't make it to their hour... and in the middle of the night there is a someone who stays all night because people don't come to their hours. Overall, I am of the opinion that you should not even START perpetual adoration until all the hours are claimed by at LEAST one person. And division captains who do their job are essential. There is absolutely no reason to risk having Our Lord left alone. There was a parish where I used to live that didn't even have people sign up for hours. People would just come and go, and Our Lord was always exposed. Some people came in the middle of the night after a few years and desecrated the Host and destroyed parts of the chapel. That was the only way to have the pastor decide that perpetual adoration without adorers doesn't work. We have to pray for success in the adoration chapels around the world, for a love of the Eucharist in the parishes so that people will attend their time slots with love and devotion. Our Lord should never be left alone.
cathoholic_anonymous
I'm not in a parish currently. I belong to the students' chaplaincy. At the moment we only have Adoration for half an hour on Wednesday lunchtimes, due to a shortage of priests (we've only got one at the moment and he is frantically busy, as he also writes and has some work outside the chaplaincy) but he plans to give permission for the Eucharistic ministers to expose the Blessed Sacrament so that we can have Adoration more frequently. mortify
One benefit in having the Tabernacle off to the side is that the Priest wont have his back towards It.
littleflower+JMJ
Thanks for all your responses. I was curious as to how the hours were set up mostly for Adoration....sorry if I confused you! I konw my parish, we only have adoration from 8:30am to 10pm on Thursdays.
prose
Not 24 hours here. Our tabernacle is in the back of the Church, opposite the altar. We are open business hours basically. They also have adoration on Friday nights. And occasional benediction and adoration after Sunday Mass.
